1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nikolai Verbinski! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Columbo Gatti and Anthony Taglia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck for Rymnes with that takedown attempt. Verbinski misses with a takedown attempt and Rymnes decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Verbinski's guard. Verbinski has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rymnes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Rymnes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Rymnes trying to control but Verbinski is working from the bottom. Rymnes slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Verbinski tries to buck Rymnes off but Rymnes is having none of it. Verbinski managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Rymnes.

Verbinski defending against the ground and pound. Rymnes scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Verbinski to see if he's OK. Verbinski is looking to reverse the position. Verbinski dodges the ground and pound from Rymnes. Rymnes landing strikes. Rymnes trying to control the position but Verbinski is working away. That's one minute gone in the round. Verbinski is looking for a sweep. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rymnes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Verbinski keeps working. Sloppy strikes there by Rymnes. Rymnes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rymnes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Verbinski is looking to regain half guard here but Rymnes keeps moving and retains side control. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Verbinski can do anything to dispel that myth. Verbinski is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Rymnes has knee on belly and moves into mount. Verbinski holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Rymnes tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Verbinski keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rymnes wants to control the pace but Verbinski is squirming around nicely. Rymnes working for a submission but Verbinski is keeping him at bay. Verbinski is looking to get to half guard. Rymnes moves to the back. I really don't envy Verbinski right now.
Verbinski really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rymnes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Rymnes wants to control but Verbinski is keeping busy. Rymnes keeps control of the position as Verbinski tries to break free.
Rymnes working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Verbinski is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Rymnes has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Verbinski taps out!
