Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, David Valadez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carlo Labayen! The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Labayen moves into the clinch. Labayen prevents the takedown attempt.
Valadez drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Valadez drops down looking for an ankle pick but Labayen pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Valadez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Labayen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Valadez swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Valadez throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Labayen looking to control but Valadez is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Valadez can't escape the position.

Labayen trying to control but Valadez is having none of it. Labayen takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Valadez is working to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Valadez is trying to reverse the position but instead Labayen has taken his back - oops! Valadez is breathing heavily. Valadez is trying to stand back up. Labayen trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Valadez doesn't escape. Labayen trying to control. Labayen is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Valadez up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Valadez trying to get back to his feet but Labayen is in full control for now. Valadez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Labayen lands shots from the back.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Labayen has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Valadez's body.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Valadez is keeping busy.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Labayen is persistently looking for the submission but Valadez is defending it well.

Valadez moves into the clinch. Valadez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Labayen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Labayen looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Valadez looks for a takedown but Labayen sprawls well. Some wild striking there from Valadez.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Valadez lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Labayen backs up against the cage.

That's going to take a lot out of him. Labayen tries a head kick but it misses.
David Valadez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Labayen throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Valadez was covering up waiting for the punch and Labayen finishes the takedown easily into guard. Valadez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Valadez kicks Labayen off and gets to his feet. Valadez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Labayen trying to control here.

Valadez wants to stand up but Labayen has a hold of him and won't allow it. Labayen manages to escape and get back to his feet! Valadez is looking to clinch but Labayen is avoiding it.
Labayen lands with a kick to the temple. Valadez shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" No luck for Labayen with that takedown attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Valadez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Labayen but Labayen pushes him off and we're back to square one. Labayen gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Valadez to score an easy takedown into full guard. Valadez throws a big right hand that misses. Labayen has a closed guard, preventing Valadez from standing up. Valadez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Labayen works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Valadez is looking to work some ground and pound but Labayen has wrist control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Labayen has his hands on Valadez's head, controlling the position. Valadez working some strikes from top position. Labayen wants to sweep but no luck. Valadez is looking to work some ground and pound but Labayen has wrist control.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Labayen pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Nice sprawl there from Labayen as Valadez shoots in. Labayen wants to clinch but Valadez slips to the side and Valadez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Labayen's guard. Labayen lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Valadez! Valadez is squirming around, avoiding Labayen's attempts to control the action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters land in half guard but Labayen regains guard immediately. Labayen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Valadez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Labayen is tightening it up a little... Valadez has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Valadez reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Valadez taps out! nice BJJ there by Labayen!
