PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rich Blue Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonny Eroquo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jonny Eroquo will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rich Blue Steel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jonny Eroquo!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Elvis Blanc and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Eroquo closes the distance and clinches up with Blue Steel, looking for a takedown. Eroquo pushes Blue Steel against the cage but Blue Steel circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Eroquo shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Blue Steel but Blue Steel pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Blue Steel misses with a body shot.

Eroquo is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Blue Steel is controlling him.
Blue Steel wanted to stand there but Eroquo had control of the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Eroquo wants to get back to his feet but Blue Steel is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Blue Steel is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Eroquo is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Eroquo has a closed guard, preventing Blue Steel from standing up.
Blue Steel slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Eroquo tries to close the distance and clinch up but Blue Steel swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Blue Steel counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Rich Blue Steel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonny Eroquo.
Blue Steel wants to pass to mount but Eroquo is defending the position.
Eroquo is positioning himself well to prevent Blue Steel advancing to mount.

Eroquo is trying to control but can't.

Blue Steel is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Eroquo has managed to free his arm - good work.

Blue Steel rushes Eroquo and presses him up against the cage.
Blue Steel tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Eroquo smiles and moves away.
Eroquo stuffs the takedown.

Eroquo misses with a head shot.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Eroquo looking to control but Blue Steel is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Eroquo cracks Blue Steel with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Eroquo working for a submission but Blue Steel is keeping him at bay.
Eroquo wants to control the pace but Blue Steel is squirming around nicely.
The referee warns Blue Steel that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rich Blue Steel will probably get the nod.
That's time! Blue Steel's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Eroquo doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Blue Steel counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Blue Steel.
Eroquo wants to stand and escape but Blue Steel is having none of it.
Eroquo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Eroquo tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Blue Steel has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Eroquo is proving hard to escape from.
Eroquo wants to control the position but Blue Steel says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Blue Steel is taking a breather. Eroquo says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Blue Steel decides to stand up.
Blue Steel shoots in looking for a takedown. Eroquo tries to sprawl out of it but Blue Steel keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Eroquo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Eroquo scores with a three punch combo!

Blue Steel closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Blue Steel wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Eroquo, who protects the arm well.
Blue Steel really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Eroquo tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Blue Steel wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Blue Steel throws a sloppy head kick and Eroquo moves out of range easily.

and Eroquo counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Blue Steel!

Eroquo is working for a guillotine from mount but Blue Steel frees his head quite easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Blue Steel is rocked!
Eroquo controlling the pace for now.
Oh Blue Steel is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Eroquo can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Blue Steel is looking to escape.
Blue Steel seems to have got his legs back now.

Eroquo might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Blue Steel kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Blue Steel on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Blue Steel tries to get out of the position.
Eroquo is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Blue Steel can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Eroquo wants to control the pace but Blue Steel is squirming around nicely.

Eroquo fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Eroquo is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Rich Blue Steel is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Eroquo lands with a kick to the temple. Blue Steel shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Eroquo tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Blue Steel has had enough of the clinch but Eroquo keeps him there for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jonny Eroquo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Blue Steel clinches.
Eroquo wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Eroquo connects with a nasty looking knee right to Blue Steel's face.

Eroquo wants to control from the top but Blue Steel keeps moving.

Blue Steel kicks Eroquo off and gets to his feet.
Eroquo takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Eroquo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Blue Steel looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Blue Steel changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Eroquo tries to avoid it but Blue Steel manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Eroquo to the ground. Eroquo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Blue Steel misses with a looping right.

Blue Steel forces Eroquo back against the cage and clinches.
Blue Steel lands a left hand.
Eroquo lands an elbow inside that Blue Steel shrugs off.
Blue Steel tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Eroquo just stands there and leans against the cage.

Eroquo tightens his grip and picks Blue Steel up, before dumping him to the ground. Blue Steel manages to land in guard.

Eroquo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Blue Steel does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Blue Steel decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Eroquo's guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Blue Steel moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Eroquo has his takedown stuffed

and Blue Steel holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Eroquo is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Eroquo drags the fight down to the ground.

Eroquo is pulling down on Blue Steel's head to control his posture.
Eroquo controls Blue Steel momentarily but Blue Steel frees himself.

Rich Blue Steel showed his dominance in that final round.
