Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, David Johnson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Cho Yamato!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yamato throws a head kick that half lands.
Yamato throws a right and a left that both miss.
Yamato pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Yamato throws a low kick but it's checked well by Johnson.
Yamato attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Johnson tries to clinch there but Yamato circles away.
Yamato throws a sloppy head kick and Johnson moves out of range easily.

Johnson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Yamato to the mat! Yamato manages to get full guard.
Johnson stops Yamato from standing up.
Johnson stays in close to Yamato's body and controls the position.
Johnson won't allow Yamato to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Johnson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Johnson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Yamato wants to stand and escape but Johnson is having none of it.
Yamato is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Yamato throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Johnson chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Yamato can pounce on him.
Johnson tries to clinch but Yamato moves out of range.

Johnson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Yamato's guard.

Johnson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Yamato is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Johnson forces his way into half guard.
Johnson wants to control but Yamato is keeping him busy.

Yamato pushes Johnson off, looking to escape but Johnson dives into side control. He's locked up a kimura now - that was fast! He's cranking on it and Yamato is forced to tap! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). David Johnson!
David Johnson retains his welterweight title!
