PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bob Yves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diablo Rage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diablo Rage will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bob Yves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Diablo Rage!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rage shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Rage can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Yves is looking to escape.
Rage controlling from the full mount.

Rage with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Yves is trying desperately to improve position.

Yves on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Yves tries to get out of the position.
Yves blocking the ground and pound.
Rage looking to ground and pound but Yves is blocking nicely.
Rage has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Rage can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Yves is looking to escape.
Yves is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Rage is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Yves defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rage wants to control but Yves is keeping busy.

Yves is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Yves rolls, trying to escape but Rage keeps control of the position.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Rage closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Yves looks to move to half guard but instead Rage has passed into mount! Damn!
Rage trying to control but Yves is having none of it.

Yves gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Rage to score an easy takedown into full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Yves wants to hit a switch here but Rage passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Yves there!
Rage landing strikes, looking to finish!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
BOOM! Rage connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Rage throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Yves because Rage loaded up on that one.
Rage looking to finish with strikes here!
Yves taking shots to the head.
Rage throws some wild stikes that Yves manages to avoid easily.
Yves is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Rage moves to take his opponent's back.
Yves looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Yves rolls, trying to escape but Rage keeps control of the position.
Rage lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Yves.

Rage has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

Rage is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Rage struggling to keep hold of the position.

Yves showing good submission defense here.
Yves looking very determined here, making life difficult for Rage.

Diablo Rage showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Both fighters circling a little - Rage finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Yves is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Rage's half guard.
Rage is trying to maintain the position but Yves is very close to passing his half guard.
Rage is looking to escape.
Rage works his way to full guard. Good work.
Rage is trying to control the position but Yves postures up.
Rage manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Yves manages to get himself to full guard.
Rage wants to control from the top but Yves keeps moving.

Yves will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Rage stands up and waves to Yves to follow him.
Rage tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Rage closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rage lands in his opponent's guard.
Rage passes Yves's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Rage drops an elbow to the side of Yves's head.
Rage tries to stand and escape but Yves actually recovers to full guard.
Rage throwing strikes but missing.
Rage slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Rage in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Yves defending against the ground and pound.
Rage throws an elbow but Yves slips to the side and avoids it well.
Yves is working to avoid the ground and pound but Rage connects with a decent elbow.
Yves looks to move to half guard but instead Rage has passed into mount! Damn!

Yves tries for a takedown but Rage circles away easily

Bob Yves has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Diablo Rage is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Rage throwing strikes from guard but Yves blocks nicely.

Diablo Rage comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rage has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
