Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of London, Fabricio Werdum!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Mitsuyo Maeda!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Paul Tew and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Werdum fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Maeda avoids it really well and circles away.
No luck for Werdum with that takedown attempt.
Werdum tries for a takedown but Maeda sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fabricio Werdum. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Werdum shoots in but no luck this time.
Werdum shoots for a double leg takedown but Maeda sprawls well. He's pushed Werdum's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Werdum shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Maeda sprawls well. Maeda wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Werdum gets slowly back to his feet.
Werdum fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Werdum tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Maeda swivels and escapes.
Maeda sends Werdum crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Maeda is motioning to the referee to let Werdum up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
It looks like Fabricio Werdum has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Werdum fails to land the takedown.
Horrible takedown by Werdum or perhaps it was just good defense by Maeda which made him look bad.
Werdum is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Werdum closes the distance and clinches up with Maeda, looking for a takedown. Werdum pushes Maeda against the cage but Maeda circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Werdum shoots in but no luck this time.
Maeda smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Maeda buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Maeda with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
A solid leg kick lands there for Maeda.
Maeda seems to be stalking Werdum here. He circles momentarily and then unleashes a devastatic head kick! Werdum drops like a stone, out cold! WOW! Are you kidding me!? What a knockout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Mitsuyo Maeda!
