Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Matias Eskelinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rorst Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie has chosen Buttons as his entrance music. Matias Eskelinen has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Matias Eskelinen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rorst Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie lands with an overhand left.
Gracie scores with a jab to the body.

A jab-cross combination lands for Eskelinen and sends Gracie crashing to the mat! Eskelinen follows him down to the mat - Gracie regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!


Gracie is rocked!


It looks like Rorst Gracie has been cut.
Eskelinen has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Gracie is squirming around, avoiding Eskelinen's attempts to control the action.
Gracie tries to hold on but Eskelinen postures up.
Gracie is desperately trying to improve his position but Eskelinen has a good base and remains in mount.
Eskelinen looking to control but Gracie is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Gracie can't escape the position.

Eskelinen swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Gracie is now in Eskelinen's guard. A big mistake from Eskelinen there, giving up the dominant position!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gracie thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Gracie must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Eskelinen trying to keep a closed guard but Gracie is proving a slippery customer.
Gracie looking to pass the guard.
Eskelinen lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Gracie!
Gracie is squirming around, avoiding Eskelinen's attempts to control the action.

Eskelinen looking for a guillotine from mount but Gracie is having none of it.
Eskelinen thowing shots but they're missing.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Gracie working to try and regain half guard.
Gracie manages to regain half guard. Good work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie won't allow Eskelinen to pass to mount.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gracie is looking to improve his position.
Eskelinen thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Eskelinen wants to pass to mount but Gracie is defending the position.
Gracie is trying to maintain the position but Eskelinen is very close to passing his half guard.

Gracie is positioning himself well to prevent Eskelinen advancing to mount.

Eskelinen is trying to work for a kimura but Gracie is defending well.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Gracie swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Eskelinen counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Eskelinen.
Eskelinen is breathing heavily.
Gracie controlling Eskelinen's posture.

Gracie has his foot on Eskelinen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Eskelinen works his way back into a safe position though.

Gracie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Eskelinen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Gracie keeping moving, preventing Eskelinen from controlling successfully.

Eskelinen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Eskelinen throws a shot from downtown. Gracie moves away and avoids it.
Gracie lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Eskelinen.
A combination from Eskelinen does no damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matias Eskelinen dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Rorst Gracie's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Gracie misses with a two punch combination.
Gracie wants to clinch.
Eskelinen shoots in but no luck this time.

Eskelinen drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Gracie is looking to reverse the position.
Eskelinen working away.
Gracie is looking to reverse the position.
Gracie gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Gracie is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Gracie wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Eskelinen.

Eskelinen trying to control but Gracie is having none of it.
Eskelinen throws a strike there. Gracie manages to avoid it well and slips a leg under to get to half guard.
Gracie looks like he's trying to stand up.
Eskelinen wants to pass to mount but Gracie is defending the position.

Gracie wants to get back to full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Eskelinen tries to clinch there but Gracie circles away.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gracie keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Gracie wants to clinch up but Eskelinen keeps it at a distance.
Gracie throws a right and a left that both miss.
Eskelinen circles away from the clinch attempt.
Eskelinen takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Gracie lands a two punch combo.
Eskelinen takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Gracie rushes Eskelinen and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Eskelinen tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Gracie just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matias Eskelinen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Eskelinen jumps guard but Gracie stands there with Eskelinen around his waist. Eskelinen gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Eskelinen tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Eskelinen has picked Gracie up - he's going for a ride! Eskelinen dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Gracie is positioning himself well to prevent Eskelinen advancing to mount.

Eskelinen wants to pass to mount but Gracie is defending the position.
Gracie is staying active underneath Eskelinen, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Eskelinen is pressing down on Gracie's thigh, looking to free his foot. Gracie is holding on for now.
Eskelinen is looking to pass Gracie's guard but actually Gracie recovers to full guard.
Gracie pulls Eskelinen in close to prevent any damage.
Gracie is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Eskelinen throwing strikes from guard but Gracie blocks nicely.
Eskelinen with a flurry of punches that miss.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gracie ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Gracie ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Gracie cracks Eskelinen with a right hand to the side of the head.

Gracie moves into the clinch successfully.

Gracie breaks from the clinch.

Gracie shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Gracie has hold of Eskelinen's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Eskelinen manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gracie looking to finish Eskelinen with some ground and pound. This is bad for Eskelinen!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rorst Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Eskelinen darts in trying to clinch

and Gracie counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Eskelinen is on top in guard.
Eskelinen looking to pass the guard.
Gracie is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Gracie controlling the position.

Gracie looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Eskelinen trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Eskelinen scores with a takedown into Gracie's guard.
Eskelinen preventing the sweep.
Eskelinen is looking to work some ground and pound but Gracie has wrist control.
Eskelinen trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom.
Gracie seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Eskelinen wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving.
Eskelinen looking to sit in guard and control but Gracie gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Eskelinen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gracie is one step ahead there.
Gracie controls from within his opponent's guard.

Gracie scoring with some ground and pound.
Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Eskelinen swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Eskelinen working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Gracie has passed into half guard!
Eskelinen is looking to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Gracie passes the guard and advances to mount!
Gracie punishing his opponent with strikes.
Gracie trying to control but Eskelinen is having none of it.
Eskelinen tries to reverse the position but Gracie maintains control.

Gracie is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Eskelinen can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Eskelinen working to try and regain half guard.
Eskelinen regains half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rorst Gracie comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gracie has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
