PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bradley James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edgar Wizard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bradley James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edgar Wizard!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Jorge Garcia and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James tries to clinch but Wizard moves out of range.

James forces Wizard back against the cage and clinches.
James has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Wizard is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Wizard gets underhooks to prevent James's takedown attempt.

James successfully pulls guard.
James throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wizard drops back looking for a leg! James is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and James manages to kick Wizard off! Wizard jumps back into James's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
James is trying to control the position but Wizard postures up.
Wizard sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed James's guard.
James has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Wizard is working away from the top position though.

Wizard is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but James still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, James has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

James stands up and we're back to a striking position.
James tries to close the distance and clinch but Wizard swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
James wants to clinch.
James wants to clinch up but Wizard keeps it at a distance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
James tries to clinch but Wizard moves out of range.

Wizard stuffs the takedown attempt from James. James gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bradley James. That's going to take a lot out of him.
James looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wizard is fending him off so far but James persists. Nope, Wizard circles away and we're back to standing.

James shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Wizard squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

James get's back to his feet.

James bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
James scores with punches from side control.
Wizard looks gassed!

James decides to stand back up. James steps back and let's Wizard get back to his feet.
Wizard avoids the head kick by James.
Wizard doesn't succeed with the takedown

and James counters with a nice double leg into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Wizard pushes James off and scrambles back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
James tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wizard sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten James somewhat.

and Wizard decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in James's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Wizard is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! James is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! James has escaped and now he's on top!
Wizard is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst James is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bradley James dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


James closes the distance and clinches up with Wizard, looking for a takedown. James pushes Wizard against the cage but Wizard circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and James connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

James closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Wizard did well to prevent James getting side control.
James prevents Wizard from standing back up.
James wants to pass the guard but Wizard is defending well.
Wizard is breathing heavily.

James is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Wizard is just riding it out for now. James eventually gives up the hold.

James escapes and gets back to his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A looping hook to the body misses from James. Wizard does a little dance to reset his feet.
James is looking to clinch.
James shoots and misses

so Wizard counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
James is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
James is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Wizard stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Wizard drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wizard jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James controls Wizard momentarily but Wizard frees himself.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
James tries to clinch but Wizard moves out of range.
James works Wizard's body with a nice hook.

so Wizard counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
James manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Wizard manages to get himself to full guard.
James is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Edgar Wizard showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


James tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Wizard swivels and escapes.

James shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Wizard is trying to defend but James finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
James thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Wizard's head.

James looking for a submission but Wizard manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
James has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
James lands a couple of elbows.
Wizard wants to get back to his feet but James is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

James stands up from Wizard's guard - James perhaps looking for a knockout.

Wizard is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. James knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Wizard is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. James doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wizard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
James throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

James moves into the clinch.

James jumps guard and drags Wizard to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Wizard drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but James manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Wizard has James in his guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bradley James.
I think James has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
