PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Li Tsang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kam Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kam Brown told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Li Tsang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kam Brown!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yuuki Gou and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Tsang, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Brown shoots in for a takedown but Tsang shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Tsang throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Brown.
Tsang misses with a series of wild punches.
Tsang throws a series of punches but Brown moves out of range.
Brown shoots for a double leg takedown but Tsang sprawls well. He's pushed Brown's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Tsang scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Tsang throws a right and a left that both miss.
Brown shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tsang as he jumps to the side.
Li Tsang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kam Brown.
Tsang lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Brown circles away quickly and effectively.

Tsang drives through and clinches with Brown against the cage.
Tsang lands a shoulder strike.
Brown keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Tsang's efforts to push away.
Tsang working hard to break the clinch.
Tsang prevents the takedown attempt.
Brown tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Tsang wants to break the clinch but can't.

Tsang pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Brown gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Tsang has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Tsang wanted to stand there but Brown had control of the position.
Tsang slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Tsang trying to control the position from guard on top but Brown is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Brown kicks Tsang off and gets to his feet.
A combination from Tsang does no damage.

and Tsang counters with a nice leg kick.
Li Tsang seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tsang wants to clinch.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Tsang throws a body kick that misses.
Tsang throws a series of punches but Brown avoids them all with ease.

Brown scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Brown is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Tsang is just riding it out for now. Brown eventually gives up the hold.

Brown escapes and gets back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Li Tsang will probably get the nod.
That's time! Tsang's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Tsang avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Tsang scores with a hook to the body. Brown takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Brown throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Tsang's waist but Tsang gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brown off to one side.

and Tsang counters with a two punch combo.
Tsang works over Brown's head and body with a nice combination.

Brown is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Brown gets a takedown into half guard.
Tsang tries to roll over but Brown keeps him under control.
Well, if Brown is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Tsang won't allow Brown to pass to mount.
Brown with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Tsang won't allow Brown to pass to mount.
Tsang keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Tsang is pressing down on Brown's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Brown trying to control the position from guard on top but Tsang is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tsang might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Brown drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Brown jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Brown slips nicely into half guard.
Brown content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Tsang is not content to let Brown control the position.

Tsang avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Brown.

Brown is working for a kimura but Tsang is defending it quite comfortably.
Brown missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Brown is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Brown is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Brown not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tsang controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Kam Brown will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Brown closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Tsang throws a right and a left that Brown avoids nicely.
Tsang rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Brown moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Brown passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Tsang!

Brown jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Tsang is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Tsang and Brown has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tsang is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Brown asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Brown is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Tsang knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Brown wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tsang keeps working.
Tsang is pushing Brown's head away, looking to escape. Brown manages to hold on to the position though.

Brown tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Brown has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Tsang trying to control but Brown flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

Brown is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Tsang has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
