PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Scorpion Red (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gabe Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gabe Silva will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Scorpion Red!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gabe Silva!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Red shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Silva but Silva pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Silva gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Red counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Silva throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Silva keeping full guard, as Red tries to pass.
Silva wants to sweep but no luck.
Red trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Silva is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Silva working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Red doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Red manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Red is pushing down on Silva's leg trying to pass to half guard. Silva is fighting to maintain full guard but Red has managed to sneak the leg through.

Red moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Silva has worked his arm free - good work by Silva!

Red thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Silva manages to get back to half guard.
Red trying to mount his opponent but Silva defends it.

Red passes to full mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Red moves to take his opponent's back.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Red is trying to stick to Silva's back but Silva is turning into Red. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Red's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Silva.

Silva is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Red is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Red manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Red is breathing heavily.

and Red counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Silva's guard now.

Red tries to free his leg and advance position but Silva is retaining full guard.
Silva can't keep his opponent in guard - Red advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Silva is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Red's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Red's back!

Silva just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Silva is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Red is defending well though. Silva let's go of the attempt for now.

Scorpion Red dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Red tries to keep at a distance but Silva has taken the fight into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee calls for Silva to work.
Red prevents Silva from breaking the clinch.

Red goes for a takedown in the clinch but Silva prevents it.
Red blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Red wants a takedown but no success here.

Silva pulls guard effortlessly.
Red trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Silva is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Silva is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Red doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Silva.

Silva is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Red is just riding it out for now. Silva eventually gives up the hold.
Silva is breathing heavily.

Silva is looking to take a break and control but Red is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Red wants to get back to his feet.
Silva thows a huge punch but Red dodges it nicely.
Red looks like he's trying to stand up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Silva tries to clinch but Red is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva looks to land a combination. Red sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Red shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Silva counters with a single leg into guard. Red didn't expect that.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Scorpion Red. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nice strikes from Silva there.
Red tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Silva manages to move to mount!
Red might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Red tries to buck Silva off but he can't manage it.
Scorpion Red overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Silva is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Red can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Red is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Silva has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Red's face.
Red is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gabe Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Silva throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Silva is looking for a kimura but Red is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Silva to get the leverage.

Red is not content to let Silva control the position.
Silva takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Red is trying to stand.

Silva tries to pass to full mount but Red defends it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Silva misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Red misses with a takedown

and Silva counters with a nice double leg into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Red is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Silva is controlling him.
Silva lands a couple of digs.
Silva slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Silva wants to control from the top but Red keeps moving.
Red has momentary wrist control but Silva slips an elbow through the middle.
Red wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Silva manages to pass to side control.
Silva prevents Red from standing back up.
Red is staying active underneath Silva, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Red is trying to stand back up but Silva is controlling him
Silva passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Red!
Silva tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Red is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Red is squirming around, avoiding Silva's attempts to control the action.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Silva is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Red is surviving well by controlling Silva's body position as best he can.
Red wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Silva is landing with some decent strikes but Red is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Red's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Red defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Silva.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Red wants to try and get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gabe Silva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Silva has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
