Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Red (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Janne Maunonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Anni Minnemäki and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maunonen swings for the body but Red moves out of range.

Maunonen connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Red momentarily.
Red lands a nice hook to Maunonen's body. Maunonen takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

and Red counters with a nice low kick that buckles Maunonen's knee momentarily.
Maunonen tries a low kick but Red avoids it.
Maunonen scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Maunonen walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Jimmy Red seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Red throws out a loose jab but Maunonen uses good head movement to avoid it.

and Red counters with a single leg into guard. Maunonen didn't expect that.
Red drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Maunonen manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Red has Maunonen in his guard.

Maunonen wants to pass the guard but Red is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Maunonen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Red pulls Maunonen in close to prevent any damage.
Maunonen wants to control from the top but Red keeps moving.
Maunonen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Red swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Maunonen drops back, looking for a kneebar! Red looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Red looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Red!
Red remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
