Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Rua! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Georges St Pierre! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Matheus Silva and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rua thows a body kick. St Pierre tries to catch it but that hurt him. Rua is looking to take this fight into the clinch. St Pierre looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rua is fending him off so far but St Pierre persists. Nope, Rua circles away and we're back to standing. St Pierre shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Rua is trying to defend but St Pierre finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Rua looks like he's trying to stand up.

St Pierre decides to stand up. St Pierre shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. St Pierre showed some decent athleticism there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rua is trying to control but St Pierre passes into side control!
That's one minute gone in the round. St Pierre decides to stand back up. St Pierre looks gassed! Rua shoots and misses and St Pierre counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. St Pierre is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. St Pierre prevents Rua from improving his position. Rua trying to control from the bottom.
Rua makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Rua. Rua trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! St Pierre is fighting to break Rua's control of his arms but Rua is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rua is on top in guard.
Rua trying to control but St Pierre is working from the bottom. Rua working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of St Pierre's head. Rua postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Rua will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Rua loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Rua won't allow St Pierre to get back to his feet. Rua trying to control but St Pierre is working from the bottom. St Pierre working for a triangle but Rua defends it easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. St Pierre is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. St Pierre had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rua defends it easily. Rua wants to get up but he can't break St Pierre's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. St Pierre has his foot on Rua's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rua works his way back into a safe position though. Rua trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Rua missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. St Pierre is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rua is aware though and is defending well. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. St Pierre thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Rua pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. St Pierre is keeping the position for now. St Pierre has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rua can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Georges St Pierre dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Rua fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but St Pierre avoids it really well and circles away. Rua doesn't succeed with the takedown and St Pierre counters with a single leg into guard. Rua didn't expect that. St Pierre stands and throws Rua's legs to the side, diving into side control. St Pierre tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no St Pierre has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! St Pierre is chipping away with strikes.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Rua is not content to let St Pierre control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. St Pierre working away. St Pierre in side control lands a decent elbow. Rua is looking to regain half guard here but St Pierre keeps moving and retains side control. Rua seems a little lost for a moment, as St Pierre dominates the positioning. St Pierre is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Rua has escaped the position, nice work there. Rua is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but St Pierre is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Rua tries to get back to half guard but can't. St Pierre landing strikes from the mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. St Pierre landing strikes from the mount and Rua is in trouble! Rua wants to hold on but St Pierre pushes him away. St Pierre throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Rua has his hands clasped together but St Pierre breaks the hold and Rua is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by St Pierre!
