Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mark Munoz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Blake Steadhem! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shigeki Fujiwara and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Munoz shoots in for a double leg but Steadhem sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Steadhem looks to land a combination but Munoz avoids it well. Munoz gets the takedown into side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The ground and pound from Munoz seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Munoz working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Steadhem is looking to reverse the position. Munoz thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Munoz working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Munoz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Munoz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Steadhem manages to work his way to half guard, despite Munoz's best efforts.
That's one minute gone in the round. Steadhem slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Steadhem had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Munoz defends it easily. Steadhem looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Steadhem is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Munoz forces his way into half guard. Steadhem looking for submissions off his back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Munoz scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Munoz trying to pass the guard but Steadhem defending well. Munoz looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Steadhem moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Steadhem keeping full guard, as Munoz tries to pass. Munoz pushes down on Steadhem's leg and manages to get into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Munoz is trying to work for a kimura but Steadhem is defending well.
Munoz is breathing heavily. Munoz missing with the ground and pound from half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Steadhem regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Munoz. Munoz trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Steadhem has his foot on Munoz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Munoz works his way back into a safe position though. Munoz is posturing up here but Steadhem has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Munoz tries to roll out but it's too tight and Munoz has to tap! Slick submission there by Steadhem!
