PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ben Seddon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donovan Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ben Seddon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Donovan Hughes!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Paul Tew and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Seddon misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Seddon tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hughes swivels and escapes.

Hughes clinches.

Hughes has clasped his hands together around Seddon's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hughes is trying to get an arm triangle but Seddon is defending well.
Hughes landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Seddon parries the strikes from Hughes easily there. Hughes is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Seddon to escape.

Seddon manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Seddon is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hughes is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Hughes trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Hughes throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Seddon works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Hughes is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Seddon avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Seddon is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Hughes throws a big right hand that misses.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Seddon tries to clinch

and Hughes counters with a shoot takedown. Seddon fights it but they end up in guard.
Hughes should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Seddon is trying to control the position but Hughes postures up.
Seddon wants to hit a switch here but Hughes passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Seddon there!
Hughes has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Seddon's face.

Hughes wants to finish this one by submission but Seddon is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Hughes.

Hughes looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Seddon sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Seddon is trying to maintain the position but Hughes is very close to passing his half guard.
Seddon is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
The fighters are battling for position here. Seddon manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Seddon is trying to keep Hughes in close.
Hughes trying to control but Seddon is working from the bottom.
Hughes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Seddon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Seddon pushes Hughes off and gets back to his feet.

Hughes clinches.
Seddon tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hughes smiles and moves away.

Seddon has Hughes up against the cage in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Seddon fails with the takedown

and Hughes counters with a nice double leg into side control. Seddon won't be happy with that.

Seddon bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hughes's guard.

Hughes looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Seddon wants to control from the top but Hughes keeps moving.
Hughes preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Hughes is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Hughes is nestled in close to Seddon, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Seddon wants to get back to full guard.
Seddon makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Seddon.

Hughes must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Seddon manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Seddon goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Hughes turns into him and now he's in Seddon's guard.
Hughes wants to get up but he can't break Seddon's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Hughes forces his way into half guard.
Seddon wants to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Donovan Hughes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Seddon wants to sweep but no luck.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hughes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Seddon wants to sweep here but Hughes controlling him for the moment.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Seddon slaps away a takedown attempt from Hughes, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hughes trying to control the action but Seddon is working from the bottom.
Hughes missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Seddon is pressing down on Hughes's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Hughes stands up and waves to Seddon to follow him.

and Seddon counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Seddon.

Hughes has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Seddon regains guard immediately.
Hughes working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Seddon's head.

Donovan Hughes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Hughes has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
