Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Georges ST Pierre! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mauricio Gatti! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gatti fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. ST Pierre sprawls well initially but Gatti persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Gatti throwing shots but ST Pierre is blocking nicely. The fighters are battling for position here. ST Pierre manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Gatti makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Gatti missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. ST Pierre is looking to stand up but Gatti isn't so interested in that idea. Gatti postures up and lands a big shot to ST Pierre's brow. ST Pierre keeping moving, preventing Gatti from controlling successfully. ST Pierre striking from his own guard. Gatti postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Gatti trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. ST Pierre can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gatti controls the pace. Gatti wants to control from the top but ST Pierre keeps moving. Gatti trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. ST Pierre shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Gatti counters by moving into the clinch. ST Pierre has Gatti pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Gatti manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Gatti stops a takedown attempt from ST Pierre.

Gatti dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. ST Pierre keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. That's two minutes gone in the round. Gatti with a flurry of punches that miss. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. ST Pierre wants to sweep here but Gatti controlling him for the moment. ST Pierre working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gatti. Gatti keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of ST Pierre's head. Gatti throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as ST Pierre works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Gatti looking to pass the guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now ST Pierre is on top in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Gatti breaks from ST Pierre's wrist control and lands an elbow. Gatti lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Gatti landing punches. Gatti lands a heavy elbow. Gatti lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Mauricio Gatti dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Gatti tries to bum rush ST Pierre with a series of wild strikes but ST Pierre uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Gatti tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. ST Pierre shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Gatti counters with a nice double leg into guard. Gatti trying to control but ST Pierre is working from the bottom. ST Pierre is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Gatti trying to control the position from guard on top but ST Pierre is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. ST Pierre avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Gatti landing some decent shots from guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. ST Pierre wants to sweep here but Gatti controlling him for the moment.

Mauricio Gatti has got the better of the ground game so far. Gatti not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. ST Pierre has momentary wrist control but Gatti slips an elbow through the middle. Gatti's corner is telling him to maintain position. ST Pierre manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gatti manages to get himself to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gatti keeping moving, preventing ST Pierre from controlling successfully. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gatti can do anything to dispel that myth. Gatti seems keen to control ST Pierre's posture.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Gatti closes the distance and clinches. Gatti breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Mauricio Gatti is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Gatti gets the takedown into side control. Gatti is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt ST Pierre will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Gatti trying to control the position but ST Pierre is working away. ST Pierre gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Gatti trying to pass the guard but ST Pierre defending well. ST Pierre looking for submissions off his back. That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Gatti wants to control from the top but ST Pierre keeps moving.
Despite being in the dominant position, Mauricio Gatti just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Gatti pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Gatti closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. ST Pierre did well to prevent Gatti getting side control. Georges ST Pierre has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! ST Pierre is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gatti pulls his head out easily.
And that's the end of the fight! Mauricio Gatti comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Gatti has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
