PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Brian Blasted (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Cornell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Cornell's choice of entrance music: Wardance. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Brian Blasted!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Andrew Cornell!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, William Gold and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cornell wants to clinch.
Cornell looks to land a combination but Blasted avoids it well.
Blasted stuffs the takedown attempt from Cornell. Cornell gets slowly back to his feet.

Blasted has closed the distance and engaged Cornell in a clinch.
Blasted trying to land knees to the body.

Blasted escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cornell closes the distance but Blasted moves to the side
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Cornell lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Blasted moves into the clinch.
Cornell tries to pull guard but Blasted won't allow it.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Cornell.

Blasted pulls Cornell into guard.
Cornell preventing the sweep.
Blasted is adopting a defensive guard.
Blasted is trying to keep Cornell in close.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Blasted controlling Cornell's posture.
Blasted controls Cornell momentarily but Cornell frees himself.
Cornell stopping the sweep attempt from Blasted.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Cornell prevents Blasted from getting back to his feet.
Cornell tries to free his leg and advance position but Blasted is retaining full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Blasted tries to clinch but Cornell moves out of range.

Blasted fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Cornell sprawls well initially but Blasted persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Blasted is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Cornell has managed to free his arm - good work.
Blasted is breathing heavily.
Cornell wants to control but Blasted is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cornell is staying active underneath Blasted, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Cornell is trying to stand up here but Blasted is controlling him well.
Cornell is refusing to be controlled, as Blasted sits in half guard.

Blasted seems to be looking for submissions.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Cornell looks like he's trying to stand up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Cornell tries to clinch but Blasted is having none of it.
Cornell goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Cornell closes the distance and clinches.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Cornell putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Blasted in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Cornell is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Blasted tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Cornell drags the fight down to the ground.
Blasted is looking to work some ground and pound but Cornell has wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Andrew Cornell will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Cornell closes the distance looking to clinch

and Blasted counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cornell won't be happy with that.
Cornell wants to control but Blasted postures up.
Cornell is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Blasted is controlling him well.
Blasted throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Cornell regains half guard there - taking advantage of Blasted's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Cornell is looking to escape.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Blasted works his way into full mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Blasted punishing his opponent with strikes.
Cornell is desperately trying to improve his position but Blasted has a good base and remains in mount.
Blasted trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Cornell is looking to improve his position but Blasted isn't that keen on the idea.

Blasted swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Cornell is now in Blasted's guard. A big mistake from Blasted there, giving up the dominant position!
Blasted has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Cornell has passed into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Blasted is looking to regain half guard here but Cornell keeps moving and retains side control.
Blasted trying to control but Cornell flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
I would not like to be Blasted right now.
I really don't envy Blasted right now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Blasted is working hard here to advance position.
Blasted trying to control the hands but Cornell breaks the grip.
Cornell is hanging on to Blasted's back as he tries to escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cornell trying to control momentarily.
Blasted tries to break free.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brian Blasted dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Cornell tries to clinch but Blasted is having none of it.
Cornell wants to clinch up but Blasted keeps it at a distance.
Blasted is trying hard to land a takedown here. Cornell sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Blasted changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cornell looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Blasted swings around for an armbar but Cornell sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Blasted's guard.
Cornell trying to control the position from guard on top but Blasted is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Blasted controls Cornell momentarily but Cornell frees himself.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Blasted working a defensive guard but Cornell manages to pass into side control anyway.
Blasted wants to control but Cornell postures up.
Cornell is looking to take a break and control but Blasted is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cornell decides to stand back up. Cornell steps back and let's Blasted get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Cornell looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Blasted is fending him off so far but Cornell persists. Nope, Blasted circles away and we're back to standing.
A leg kick checked by Blasted.
Cornell does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Blasted throws a head kick that misses

and Cornell counters by clinching up.
Blasted manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Cornell lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Cornell has Blasted pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Blasted manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Cornell is working for takedown but Blasted is calmly controlling the position for now.
Brian Blasted has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andrew Cornell.
Cornell misses with a knee strike.
Blasted wants a takedown but no success here.
Blasted has had enough of the clinch but Cornell keeps him there for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Blasted is trying to force a seperation but Cornell has the dominant position.
Cornell gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Cornell tries for a takedown but Blasted manages to get underhooks.

Blasted manages to pull guard.
Cornell preventing the sweep.
Cornell trying to stand up but can't free himself from Blasted's guard.
Blasted is trying to control the position but Cornell postures up.
Blasted is pulling down on Cornell's head. It's preventing any offense from Cornell, at least for the moment.
Blasted is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Blasted is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cornell defends well.
Blasted wants to get back to his feet but Cornell is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Brian Blasted.
I think Blasted has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
