Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Stewart Gilligan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Meite (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Stewart Gilligan !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Meite!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Dean Styles and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meite tries to clinch there but Gilligan circles away.
Meite fails in his attempt to clinch.
Gilligan circles away from the clinch attempt.
John Meite seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Meite throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Gilligan tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Meite swivels and escapes.

Gilligan tries to free his leg and advance position but Meite is retaining full guard.

Gilligan drops back, looking for a kneebar! Meite looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Meite looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Meite!

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Meite looks up at the clock and then as Gilligan takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Meite smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Meite thows a huge punch but Gilligan dodges it nicely.

Gilligan is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Gilligan is breathing heavily.
Gilligan is looking for a sweep. Meite is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Meite wants to take a breather but Gilligan is having none of it.
Meite perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Gilligan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Gilligan is staying active underneath Meite, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Gilligan could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Meite keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Meite tries to lock up and control but Gilligan gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Gilligan is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Meite can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Gilligan moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Meite has worked his arm free - good work by Meite!
Meite is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Gilligan is controlling him well.

Gilligan is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Meite is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Gilligan swings around for an armbar but Meite sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Gilligan 's guard.

Meite cracks Gilligan with a solid left hand.
Meite trying to control but Gilligan is working from the bottom.
Gilligan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Meite wants to pass the guard but Gilligan is keeping the position.

Meite content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Gilligan is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Meite jumps into side control!

Meite stands up and beckons Gilligan to his feet.

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Despite being in the dominant position, John Meite just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Gilligan has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Meite is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gilligan .

That was a close second round but I would say that Stewart Gilligan will probably get the nod.

Gilligan uses his free foot to push down on Meite's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Meite.

Gilligan is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Meite has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Meite!
Meite makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Gilligan is looking for a triangle but Meite pushes his legs off easily.
Meite wants to control from the top but Gilligan keeps moving.
Meite would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Gilligan bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Meite's guard.

Meite wants to get back to his feet but Gilligan is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Gilligan is looking to advance position but Meite has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Gilligan has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Meite should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Gilligan has tightened it up now! Meite should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
