Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matt Downes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and bark er (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). bark er has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Matt Downes's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matt Downes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, bark er!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Skip Squint and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Downes prevents er from breaking the clinch.
Downes has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. er is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
er wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
er tries to pull guard but Downes won't allow it.
Downes tries for a takedown. No joy.
er wants to get back to striking at distance but Downes won't allow it.
Downes is trying to work for a single leg takedown but er pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Downes. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Downes wants to pass the guard but er is keeping the position.
Downes trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Downes is working er over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Downes is pushing down on er's leg trying to pass to half guard. er is fighting to maintain full guard but Downes has managed to sneak the leg through.
Downes looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks er with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
er really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Downes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Downes works his way into full mount!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if er can do anything to dispel that myth.
er is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Downes trying to control but er is having none of it.

Downes wants to finish this one by submission but er is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Downes.

Downes looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Downes is breathing heavily.

Downes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Downes avoids the attempt from er to control.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
er just holding on.

Downes looking to secure an arm triangle but er defends it well.

Downes is going oldschool here, as he tries to force er to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so er shrugs it off.

Downes wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.

Downes thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
er is looking to improve his position but Downes isn't that keen on the idea.
Downes throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for er because Downes loaded up on that one.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Downes working for a guillotine from mount but er is in no mood to give up.
er is trying desperately to improve position.
Downes avoids the attempt from er to control.
er working to try and regain half guard.
er wants to control but Downes is having none of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

er is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Downes's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from er.
er shoots in for a takedown but Downes shows good takedown defense.
Downes misses with an uppercut.
Downes fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but er avoids it really well and circles away.

er avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Downes throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
er throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Downes works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

er working some strikes from top position.
er must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
er slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Downes has a closed guard, preventing er from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Downes keeping moving, preventing er from controlling successfully.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
er tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Downes shoots and misses
and er counters with a lovely straight right hand!

er seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
er wanted to stand there but Downes had control of the position.
Downes can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as er controls the pace.

er got a little sloppy there for a moment and Downes has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, er has managed to get both his arms back between Downes's legs - danger averted.

Downes is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! er has his hands clasped together but Downes extends an breaks er's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Downes.
