PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fabio Portes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Russ Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Portes comes to the cage accompanied by The Doors - Riders on the storm . We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fabio Portes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Russ Miller!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miller misses with a series of wild punches.
Jab by Miller.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Portes.

Miller shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Portes manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Portes on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Portes tries to get out of the position.
Miller won't allow Portes to get back to his feet.
Portes trying to strike off his back.
Portes wants to sweep but no luck.
Portes pulls Miller in close to prevent any damage.
Miller tries to free his leg and advance position but Portes is retaining full guard.

Miller looking to sit in guard and control but Portes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Portes sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Portes is looking to advance position but Miller has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Portes tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Miller is landing with some decent strikes but Portes is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Miller breaks from Portes's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Miller has control of Portes's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Portes regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Portes is wriggling around trying to escape.
Miller lands a heavy elbow.

Portes tries to lock up and control but Miller gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Miller tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Miller lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Portes tries to reverse the position but Miller maintains control.
Portes wants to try and get back to his feet.
Portes is breathing heavily.
Miller tries to control but Portes wriggling away.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Miller jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Portes is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Portes and Miller has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Portes looks to move to half guard but instead Miller has passed into mount! Damn!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Portes's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Portes moves into the clinch.
Portes fails to pull guard.

Portes is trying to trip Miller. He has hold of a leg but Miller is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Portes persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Miller can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Portes controls the pace.
Portes wants to pass the guard but Miller is keeping the position.
Miller manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Portes manages to get himself to full guard.
Miller seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Miller passes Portes's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Miller controlling the action here.
Miller stalling away here and it's allowed Portes to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Miller wants to get up but he can't break Portes's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Miller is fighting to break Portes's control of his arms but Portes is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Portes avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Miller is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Portes is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Portes keeping moving, preventing Miller from controlling successfully.

Miller wants to pass the guard but Portes is keeping the position.
Portes is looking to stand up but Miller isn't so interested in that idea.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Miller closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Miller looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Miller is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Portes looks like he's trying to stand up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Miller is working for a kimura but Portes is defending it quite comfortably.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Russ Miller showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Miller closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Portes to the mat! Portes manages to get full guard.

Miller slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Portes is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Miller is controlling him well.
Portes is looking for a sweep.
Miller is looking to take a break and control but Portes is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Miller in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Miller wants to control but Portes is keeping him busy.
Portes tries to buck Miller off but Miller is having none of it.

Portes is trying to get back to his feet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Miller wants to clinch but Portes slips to the side

and Portes counters with a nice double leg into side control. Miller won't be happy with that.
Portes trying to control the position but Miller is working away.
Miller manages to get back to half guard.
Miller is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Portes content to control rather than advance.
Portes looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Fabio Portes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Portes seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Miller does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Miller moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Miller pulls Portes in close to his closed guard and prevents Portes from doing any damage or advancing position.

I would just about give that final round to Russ Miller.
I've got Miller winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
