Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Feodor Petrov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, William Zai! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Valeri Chadov and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zai rushes Petrov and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Zai tries for a takedown. No joy.
Petrov breaks the clinch.
Zai moves out of range of the body kick. A head kick misses from Zai. Zai tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Petrov paws at him with a jab and circles away. Zai wants to clinch. Zai throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Petrov. Petrov tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Zai paws at him with a jab and circles away. Petrov looks for a takedown but Zai sprawls well. Petrov shoots for a takedown but Zai saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Petrov has managed to clinch.
Petrov has Zai pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Zai manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Feodor Petrov. That's going to take a lot out of him. Petrov wants to break the clinch but can't.
Petrov turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Petrov manages to end up in side control. Zai is trying to get back to half guard. Zai is not in a great position here, taking some shots. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zai is trying to control Petrov's posture but Petrov avoids it. Zai gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Zai tries to kick Petrov off but Petrov keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Petrov is looking to advance position but Zai won't allow it. Zai is trying to stand up here but Petrov is controlling him well. Petrov controlling the pace.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Petrov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Zai keeps working. Zai is looking to control Petrov's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Zai avoid being mounted? Petrov content to control rather than advance. Zai is looking to escape. Petrov scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Petrov prevents Zai from improving his position. Petrov decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Petrov decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Zai looks gassed! Petrov is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Well, if Petrov is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Zai flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Zai has a closed guard, preventing Petrov from standing up. Petrov looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Petrov trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Zai keeping moving, preventing Petrov from controlling successfully. Zai wants to get back to his feet but Petrov is in a dominant position and won't allow it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Feodor Petrov dominated that round. That's time! Petrov's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Zai looks to land a combination but Petrov avoids it well. Petrov shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Petrov was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Zai is wriggling around trying to escape.
Petrov looking to control but Zai is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Petrov controlling the pace for now. Petrov's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Zai can't escape the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Petrov trying to control but Zai is having none of it. Zai tries to hold on but Petrov pushes him away. Petrov fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Petrov wants to take Zai's back here but Zai is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Petrov has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Zai tries to lock up and control but Petrov gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Petrov content just to control the position here.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Feodor Petrov just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Petrov scores with a head kick.
Petrov looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Petrov trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Zai is trying to control the position but Petrov postures up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Petrov lands a couple of decent looking shots. Petrov not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Zai wants to sweep but no luck. Petrov controls from within his opponent's guard. Zai is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Petrov is controlling him. Zai is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Zai is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Petrov doesn't manage to clinch there - Zai circles away.

Feodor Petrov dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Zai fails with the takedown. Petrov throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. William Zai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Petrov closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Petrov lands in his opponent's guard. Zai keeping moving, preventing Petrov from controlling successfully. Zai pulls Petrov in close to prevent any damage. Petrov throwing strikes but missing. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Petrov is looking to stand up but Zai won't let him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Petrov distracts Zai with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Petrov thows a big elbow that misses. Petrov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Zai swivels though and keeps the full guard. Zai not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Zai gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Petrov drags the fight down to the ground.
Petrov pushes Zai off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Zai scores with a decent looking hook. Horrible takedown by Petrov or perhaps it was just good defense by Zai which made him look bad. Zai throws a leg kick which misses Petrov's front leg but catches the back leg as Petrov tries to avoid it. Petrov fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Zai sprawls well initially but Petrov persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Petrov gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Petrov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Petrov is in close to Zai's body, working some short punches and elbows. Petrov postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Zai wants to sweep here but Petrov controlling him for the moment. Zai keeping moving, preventing Petrov from controlling successfully. Petrov won't allow Zai to sweep him here. That's three minutes gone in the round. Zai trying to control the position here. Petrov has gone for a leg lock! Zai slips out almost immediately though and dives into Petrov's guard. Zai is looking to stand up but Petrov won't let him. William Zai has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Zai throwing strikes but missing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Zai stopping the sweep attempt from Petrov. Zai trying to control but Petrov is working from the bottom. Petrov trying to control the position.
Petrov pulls Zai in close to prevent any damage. Zai content to stall in guard here. Petrov controls Zai momentarily but Zai frees himself.
And that's the end of the fight! Feodor Petrov showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Petrov, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
