Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Perereca (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddie Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eddie Mendez will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lucas Perereca! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Eddie Mendez! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Luis Engracia and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mendez tries to clinch but Perereca moves out of range. Perereca shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mendez is trying to defend but Perereca finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Perereca is figuring out what he wants to do next. Perereca prevents Mendez from standing back up.
Mendez pushes Perereca off and gets back to his feet. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Perereca. Mendez wants to clinch. Perereca looks for a takedown but Mendez sprawls well. Mendez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Perereca paws at him with a jab and circles away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Perereca looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mendez is fending him off so far but Perereca persists. Nope, Mendez circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lucas Perereca. That's going to take a lot out of him. Perereca avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Mendez misses with a takedown and Perereca counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Perereca perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Mendez wants to get back to his feet. Perereca not landing any meaningful shots this time. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Mendez pushes Perereca off looking to stand but Perereca dives back in and keeps control.
Perereca is breathing heavily. Perereca uses his free foot to push down on Mendez's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Mendez. Perereca controlling from mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mendez's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Mendez somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet! Mendez is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Perereca's half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mendez wants to stand but Perereca has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Perereca slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Perereca pulls Mendez in close to his closed guard and prevents Mendez from doing any damage or advancing position. Mendez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Perereca is proving hard to escape from. Perereca is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Mendez would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Mendez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Perereca fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Mendez wants to clinch up but Perereca keeps it at a distance. Mendez is looking to clinch. Mendez fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mendez looks to clinch and Perereca counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mendez won't be happy with that. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Mendez is trying to escape and get back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
