PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Leonardo Valente (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick O Neil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). O Neil has chosen eye of the tiger as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Leonardo Valente has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Leonardo Valente seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Leonardo Valente!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Patrick O Neil!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

O Neil shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Valente is trying to defend but O Neil finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Valente is refusing to be controlled, as O Neil sits in half guard.
Valente keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
O Neil is trying to control the action in half guard but Valente is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
O Neil is figuring out what he wants to do next.
O Neil seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Valente does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
O Neil wants to pass the guard but Valente is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.

O Neil is working for a submission of some sort.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Valente shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Valente showed some decent athleticism there.
Valente stalling.
O Neil regains full guard. Nicely done.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
O Neil wants to stand up but Valente is controlling him.
Valente won't allow O Neil to sweep him here.
Valente wants to pass the guard but O Neil is keeping the position.
O Neil really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Valente. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Valente wants to control from the top but O Neil keeps moving.

O Neil has his feet on Valente's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Valente misses with a takedown

so O Neil counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Valente keeping moving, preventing O Neil from controlling successfully.
O Neil works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Valente is breathing heavily.
O Neil looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Valente wants to get back to full guard.
O Neil missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
O Neil wants to free his trapped foot but Valente is holding on for dear life with his legs.
O Neil is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
O Neil frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
O Neil trying to control but Valente is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
O Neil lands a heavy elbow.
O Neil scoring with strikes but Valente is staying in there.

O Neil jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Valente manages to avoid the submission attempt.
O Neil working the body and head with strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patrick O Neil dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



O Neil gets the takedown into side control.

O Neil tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no O Neil has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Valente throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
O Neil wants to stand but Valente is controlling his arm.
Valente is not content to let O Neil control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
O Neil might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Valente kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Valente sneaks back into half guard.
O Neil is pressing down on Valente's thigh, looking to free his foot. Valente is holding on for now.
Valente has a hand on O Neil's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. O Neil takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Valente is trying desperately to improve position.
O Neil with shots to the head and body - Valente looks very uncomfortable down there.
O Neil unloading with bombs!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

O Neil swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
