Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Xu Huang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Koss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Koss has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Xu Huang's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Xu Huang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Koss!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Elvis Blanc and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Koss closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Koss remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Despite being in the dominant position, John Koss just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Huang decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Koss's guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Huang tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Koss smiles and moves away.

Huang feints and as Koss raises his hands in defense, Huang changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Huang drops back, looking for a kneebar! Koss looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Koss looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Koss!

That was a close round but I would say that Xu Huang will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Koss is on top in guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Huang wants to sweep but no luck.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Koss utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Koss throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Huang's waist but Huang gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Koss off to one side.
John Koss seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Huang shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Koss pinned against the cage. Koss gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Koss shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Huang is trying to defend but Koss finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Huang is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Koss can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
You get the feeling that Koss really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Koss pushes Huang off looking to stand but Huang dives back in and keeps control.

Huang wants to work for an arm triangle but Koss is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Koss scores with a few weak punches.
Xu Huang is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Huang stalling away here and it's allowed Koss to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Xu Huang showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Huang, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
