PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Owen Cole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Teran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cole comes to the cage accompanied by Till I Collapse. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Owen Cole!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Teran!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cole swinging wildly here.
Teran wants to clinch.
Cole throws a looping overhand right but Teran ducks down to avoid it.

Cole looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Cole is looking to stall here but Teran recovers full guard.
Teran is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Cole gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Cole dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Cole tries to clinch up
and Teran counters with a three punch combo that has Cole backing up. Cole nods at Teran to acknowledge the strikes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Teran has a takedown stuffed.
A punch combination from Cole misses.
Teran lands a slapping body shot.
Teran looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Cole clinches with his opponent.
Teran wants to stall.
Cole pushes Teran back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Cole escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Cole moves into range and clinches up with Teran.
Cole drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Teran gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Teran fails to pull guard.
Owen Cole has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Teran.

Cole breaks from the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Teran gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Cole to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Teran tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Teran preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Cole throws a big right hand that misses.
Cole's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Teran is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Teran looks gassed!
Cole lands a couple of digs.
Cole postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cole looking to pass the guard.
Teran is trying to keep Cole in close.
Teran managing to control the position.

Cole decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Teran, up you get!
Teran will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Cole scores with a shot to the body.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cole tries to clinch but Teran is having none of it.
Cole lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Teran backs up against the cage.

Cole lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Owen Cole seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Teran closes the distance but Cole moves to the side
and Cole counters with a left and a right that stings Teran.

Cole darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Teran is trying to get back to full guard.
Teran is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Cole stands up from half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Teran dives in and grabs Cole's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cole pushes down on Teran's head and hops out.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Owen Cole dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Excellent takedown into side control there by Cole.

Cole stands up.

Teran gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Cole throwing strikes from guard but Teran blocks nicely.
Teran will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Cole avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Teran wants to stand up but Cole is controlling him.
Cole with a nice head shot there.
Cole sitting in guard here, content to control.
Cole wants to stand but Teran has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Cole throws and elbow that misses. Teran uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cole's guard. Nice move by Teran!
Cole lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Teran!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Cole working away from the top, dropping strikes.

Cole goes for an armbar but Teran turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Teran.
Teran scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Teran slips nicely into half guard.
Teran trying to mount his opponent but Cole defends it.

Cole is trying to get back to full guard.
Cole is trying to stand.
Cole tries to get to full guard but Teran has control of the leg.
Teran looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Cole is controlling Teran's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Teran stops Cole from getting back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Teran is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Cole looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Owen Cole is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Teran.
Teran throws a head kick that misses.

Cole has managed to clinch.

Cole jumps guard.
Cole wants to stand up but Teran is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Owen Cole dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Cole doesn't manage to clinch there - Teran circles away.
A shot to the body from Teran misses
enabling Cole to counter with a crisp jab.
Cole keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Teran is looking to clinch.
Teran fails with the takedown

and Cole moves into the clinch.
Teran tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Owen Cole has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Teran.

Cole pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Cole fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Teran sprawls well initially but Cole persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Cole wants to free his trapped foot but Teran is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Cole stands up out of the half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

and Teran counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Cole's guard now.

Cole wriggles free and stands up.
Cole wants to clinch.
Cole fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Teran is looking to clinch.

Cole closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Teran to the mat! Teran manages to get full guard.
Cole works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Owen Cole overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Teran is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cole takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Teran looks like he's trying to stand up.
Teran is not content to let Cole control the position.
Cole wants to stand up but Teran is controlling the position.
Teran trying to control but Cole postures up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Cole in particular looking to stall.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cole thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cole fails with the takedown

and Teran counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Cole pushes Teran off looking to stand but Teran dives back in and keeps control.
Cole controlling the position well.

Teran is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Cole sees it coming and defends easily.
Cole wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Teran wants to get back to his feet.
Cole keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Cole wants to control but Teran is keeping busy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cole is not content to let Teran control the position.
Mark Teran has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Owen Cole is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Cole stuffs the takedown.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Owen Cole.
Well Cole has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
