PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gage R (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kurt Kendall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Kendall's choice of entrance music: Kool Moe Dee - I Go To Work. On his way into the cage it seems that Gage R has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Gage R seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gage R!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kurt Kendall!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Joseph Jones and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
R lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by R.
Kendall misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
R scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Kendall falls off balance throwing a combination
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Kendall with a lazy takedown attempt
and R counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kendall tries to clinch but R moves away

and R counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
R working Kendall over with strikes.
R has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ground and pound from R.
Kendall is trying to defend against the ground and pound but R scores with a couple of nice shots.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
R wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kendall keeps working.
Kendall regains full guard. Nicely done.
R works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Kendall is refusing to be controlled, as R sits in half guard.
R working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

R looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Kendall looking for submissions off his back.
R scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Kendall is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kendall on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
R missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Kendall controlling the position well.
R working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Kendall throws his legs up looking for a submission but R uses it to pass to side control.
R cracks Kendall with a big right hand but Kendall just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

An elbow from R crashes against the mat.

R is trying to get an arm triangle but Kendall is defending well.
Kendall is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked R off and has taken his back!

Kendall looking to finish the fight with a rear naked choke. R is controlling Kendall 's left arm and he spins nicely into guard.
Kendall is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst R is controlling him.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kendall avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
R won't allow Kendall to sweep him here.
Kendall is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
R is looking for a sweep. Kendall is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
R keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
R gets full guard.
Kendall scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

R throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Kendall stands up from guard. Let's bang!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
R slips under a jab.
Kendall misses with a takedown attempt

and R counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gage R dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Kendall shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and R counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Kendall has hold of R's hands but R slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
R scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
R is looking to advance position but Kendall won't allow it.
R looks to land a strike but Kendall avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Kendall is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kendall lands a good elbow from the bottom.

R working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Kendall's head.
R lands a couple of elbows.
R wants to pass the guard but Kendall is keeping the position.
Kendall is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Kendall thows a huge punch but R dodges it nicely.
Gage R overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
R avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kendall.
Kendall is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Kendall is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
R landing strikes from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and R counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Kendall's guard now.

Kendall cracks R with a solid left hand.
Kendall must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
R is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
R slips a nice elbow through Kendall's hands, connecting with Kendall's forehead.
R with the ground and pound but Kendall uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Kendall has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but R can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kendall wants to sweep but no luck.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as R accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

R rushes Kendall and presses him up against the cage.
R lands with a short head shot on the inside.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

R pulls Kendall into guard.
R wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gage R dominated that second round.
That's time! R's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Kendall drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

R throws and elbow that misses. Kendall uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in R's guard. Nice move by Kendall!
R is pulling down on Kendall's head to control his posture.

R had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kendall defends it easily.
Kendall throwing strikes but missing.
Kendall with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Kendall distracts R with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
