Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alvaro Merida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christian Henderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alvaro Merida! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Christian Henderson! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Jorge Garcia and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Henderson stuffs the takedown attempt from Merida. Merida gets slowly back to his feet. Merida shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Henderson keeping moving, preventing Merida from controlling successfully. Merida wants to pass the guard but Henderson is keeping the position. Merida wants to stand and escape but instead Henderson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Henderson throws and elbow that misses. Merida uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Henderson's guard. Nice move by Merida! Merida in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Merida tries to stand but Henderson is controlling from the bottom. Henderson wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Merida wanted to stand there but Henderson had control of the position. Merida wants to stand and escape but instead Henderson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Merida is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Henderson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Henderson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Henderson with a flurry of punches that miss. Henderson thows a big elbow that misses. Merida wants to stand and escape but Henderson is having none of it.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Henderson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Henderson is keen to just control but Merida is a slippery customer. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Ground and pound from Henderson. Henderson slows the pace down in half guard. Henderson trying to control from half guard but Merida is working away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Merida wants to improve his position but Henderson is controlling well.
Henderson is thwarting Merida's attempts to control the position. Merida is breathing heavily. Henderson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. That's four minutes gone in the round. Merida has hold of Henderson's hands but Henderson slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Merida knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Henderson on the ground. Merida is trying to stand.
Henderson has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Henderson won't let Merida get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Henderson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Merida is trying to defend but Henderson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Henderson is landing with some decent strikes but Merida is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. A nice elbow there by Henderson. Henderson lands a big elbow. That's three minutes gone in the round. Henderson is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Merida is surviving well by controlling Henderson's body position as best he can. Henderson sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Henderson swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Merida is now in Henderson's guard. A big mistake from Henderson there, giving up the dominant position! Henderson has a closed guard, preventing Merida from standing up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Merida looking to sit in guard and control but Henderson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Merida tries to land a sweep but no joy. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Henderson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Henderson landing with the ground and pound. Merida preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Christian Henderson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Merida's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Henderson trying to control but Merida is having none of it. Merida tries to lock up and control but Henderson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Henderson landing punches. Henderson lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. The referee warns Merida that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

And that's the end of the fight! Christian Henderson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Henderson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
