PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marc Kar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Roc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marc Kar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Roc!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Bruno Hogan and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kar tries to keep at a distance but Roc has taken the fight into the clinch.
Roc wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kar has him pressed against the cage.

Kar escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Roc thows a body shot but no joy.
Kar closes the distance looking to clinch
and Roc counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Marc Kar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Roc tries to keep at a distance but Kar has taken the fight into the clinch.

Kar manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Roc slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Roc wants to stand but Kar has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Kar is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Kar keeping moving, preventing Roc from controlling successfully.

Roc wanted to stand there but Kar had control of the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Roc accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Kar gets a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Roc's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Roc tries to stall but Kar uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Roc has Kar pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Kar manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Kar jumps guard.
Kar is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Roc slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Roc is looking to take a break and control but Kar is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Roc is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kar has escaped the position, nice work there.
Kar manages to work his way to half guard, despite Roc's best efforts.
Kar has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Roc is working away from the top position though.
Kar might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Roc is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kar looking to control.
Kar is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kar wants to stand up but Roc is controlling him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Marc Kar will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Roc shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kar as he avoids it easily.

Kar clinches up against the cage.
Kar is trying to stall.
Roc drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kar pulls his leg out and moves away.
Roc blocks a head kick by Kar.
Kar tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Roc counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Kar throws a right and a left that both miss.
Roc tries to bum rush Kar with a series of wild strikes but Kar uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kar closes the distance looking to clinch
and Roc counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Marc Kar is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Roc fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Marc Kar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Roc.

Kar manages to break the clinch.
Kar shoots in for a double leg but Roc sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Roc misses with a head kick.
Roc is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

and Roc counters with a single leg into guard. Kar didn't expect that.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kar wants to sweep but no luck.

Roc closes the distance and pushes Kar back into the cage.
Roc tries to land knees in the clinch but Kar avoids the damage to the body.
Kar tries to land a knee to the head but Roc blocks with his arms.
Roc is trying to drag Kar to the mat but Kar just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Roc is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kar sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Roc stuffs the takedown attempt from Kar. Kar gets slowly back to his feet.
Roc tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kar swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Kar counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Kar tries to score a body lock takedown but Roc shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Roc fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Kar stops a takedown attempt from Roc.
Roc goes for a takedown in the clinch but Kar prevents it.
Kar will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Roc up against the cage.
Roc jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kar walks away with a smile on his face. Roc gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

letting Roc counter with a right hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Roc showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

and Roc counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Marc Kar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Roc.
Kar throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kar fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Roc throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kar closes the distance looking to clinch
and Roc counters with a good, hard body kick but Kar shrugs it off.
Kar shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Roc as he jumps to the side.
Roc throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kar's waist but Kar gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Roc off to one side.

Kar clinches but Roc breaks the clinch
and Roc makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Roc shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Kar counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Kar.
Kar comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

and Roc counters by clinching up.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Kar takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Kar goes for a takedown in the clinch but Roc prevents it.

Roc keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Kar's efforts to push away.
Roc wants to get back to striking at distance but Kar won't allow it.

Kar is pressed up against the cage. Roc has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kar down to the mat. Kar avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Kar has closed the distance and engaged Roc in a clinch.
Kar throws an elbow that misses.
Kar wants to stall.
Roc can't break the clinch.
Roc goes for a takedown attempt but Kar pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
No luck for Kar with that takedown attempt.
Kar is looking to clinch but Roc is avoiding it.
Kar closes the distance but Roc moves to the side
and Roc counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.

Roc tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kar just stands there and leans against the cage.
Kar on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Roc pushes off an throws an elbow but Kar leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Roc wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kar has him pressed against the cage.

Kar pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Roc shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kar defends it nicely.

and Roc decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kar's guard.

Kar is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Roc slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Roc throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Roc throwing strikes but missing.
Roc missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Roc comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Roc has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
