PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Green Pony (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karl Mildenberger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Green Pony!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Karl Mildenberger!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Tarja Halkonen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mildenberger closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Pony is trying to improve his position.
Pony is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Mildenberger asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Pony tries to bench press Mildenberger off him but Mildenberger keeps the position.
Pony is trying to control Mildenberger's posture but Mildenberger avoids it.
Pony is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mildenberger tries to score with some ground and pound. Pony controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Mildenberger remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Mildenberger is looking to take a break and control but Pony is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Pony shoots and misses
and Mildenberger counters with an inside leg kick.

Mildenberger closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The referee asks Mildenberger politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Mildenberger prefers to stall for the moment though.
Mildenberger wants to stand but Pony has his arm trapped.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Mildenberger really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pony. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Pony is breathing heavily.
Pony is trying to get back to full guard.
Pony is pressing down on Mildenberger's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Mildenberger must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Mildenberger not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Pony has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mildenberger can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Pony is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mildenberger defends well.
Mildenberger stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pony swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Pony has his foot on Mildenberger's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mildenberger works his way back into a safe position though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A nice inside leg kick there by Mildenberger. That's going to slow Pony down.

Pony tries to keep at a distance but Mildenberger has taken the fight into the clinch.

Mildenberger lands an elbow that stopped Pony in his tracks for a moment.

Mildenberger has Pony pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Mildenberger pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Pony tumbling to the mat - Mildenberger dives into Pony's guard.
Pony is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Pony's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

and Mildenberger holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Mildenberger gets through Pony's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Mildenberger lands with a short shot to the head.

Mildenberger prevents the takedown attempt.
Pony has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Mildenberger avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Pony is fighting off a takedown attempt but Mildenberger is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Pony to the mat. Pony regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Pony drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Mildenberger gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Mildenberger will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Pony up against the cage.

Karl Mildenberger showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Pony shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Mildenberger counters with a nice double leg into side control. Pony won't be happy with that.

Mildenberger got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pony has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mildenberger has managed to get both his arms back between Pony's legs - danger averted.

Well Mildenberger has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
