Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Julius Guida! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Efrain Hunter! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Guida shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Hunter throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Hunter throws a right and a left that Guida avoids nicely. Hunter misses with a few strikes there.
Guida decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Guida missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Hunter tries to get to full guard but Guida has control of the leg. Guida is trying to control the action in half guard but Hunter is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Guida lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Hunter pushes Guida off and gets back to his feet. A combination from Hunter does no damage. Guida closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hunter did well to prevent Guida getting side control. Guida perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Guida is thwarting Hunter's attempts to control the position. Guida blocks the strikes from Hunter.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Guida not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Hunter is staying active underneath Guida, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Hunter trying to hold on to Guida's head to control him but Guida postures up.
Hunter is concentrating on defense, preventing Guida from advancing position. Guida wants to take a breather but Hunter is having none of it.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Guida avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hunter looks gassed! Guida changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hunter looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Guida working away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hunter takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Guida tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Guida cracks Hunter with an elbow. That is naaassty.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hunter tries to get back to half guard but can't. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hunter can do anything to dispel that myth. Guida advances to mount. Guida can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hunter is looking to escape. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Hunter wants to control but Guida is having none of it. Guida unloading with bombs! Guida working away from the top, dropping strikes. Guida lands a nice shot to the head. Guida wants to finish this one by submission but Hunter is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Guida.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hunter wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Guida lands with some strikes. Guida postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Hunter looks a forlorn figure.
Guida trying to control but he's not successful this time. Hunter tries to hold on but Guida postures up. Guida raining down shots from the mount!
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Guida punishing his opponent with strikes. Hunter keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
BOOM! Guida connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Guida lands a nice shot to the head. Hunter in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Hunter is in a horrible position here. Guida smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Hunter is trying to stand. Guida lands a big elbow. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Julius Guida dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Hunter gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Guida is looking to work some ground and pound but Hunter has wrist control. Hunter wants to stand and escape but Guida is having none of it. Hunter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Guida is one step ahead there. Hunter has momentary wrist control but Guida slips an elbow through the middle. Hunter is breathing heavily. Guida postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Guida postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
That's one minute gone in the round. Guida trying to control the position from guard on top but Hunter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hunter is trying to keep Guida in close.
Guida tries to free his leg and advance position but Hunter is retaining full guard. Hunter wants to improve his position but instead Guida has moved into half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Guida drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hunter prevents Guida from improving position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Guida lands a decent elbow from side control. Guida is working Hunter over with some ground and pound from side control. Hunter managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Guida.
Hunter is not content to let Guida control the position. You can see the frustration on Hunter's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Guida wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hunter keeps working. Guida creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Guida is looking to take a break and control but Hunter is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Hunter manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Guida makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Guida. Guida tries to strike from the bottom.
Julius Guida overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Guida escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hunter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Hunter cracks Guida with a solid left hand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Hunter got a little sloppy there for a moment and Guida has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hunter has managed to get both his arms back between Guida's legs - danger averted. Guida can't keep his opponent in guard - Hunter advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Hunter is figuring out what he wants to do next. Hunter seems to be looking for submissions.
Hunter is looking to advance position but Guida won't allow it. Guida is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hunter pulls his head out easily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Julius Guida dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Hunter stuffs the takedown attempt from Guida. Guida gets slowly back to his feet. Hunter throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Guida. Guida fails with a takedown attempt. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! A punch combination from Hunter misses. Guida tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hunter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Guida somewhat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Julius Guida. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hunter throws a series of punches but Guida moves out of range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Guida shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hunter napping and manages to drive through into side control! Hunter sneaks back into half guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Hunter tries to kick Guida off but Guida keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fighters are battling for position here. Hunter manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Guida preventing the sweep. Hunter controls Guida momentarily but Guida frees himself. Guida trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Hunter is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Guida is aware though and is defending well. Hunter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Guida is one step ahead there. Hunter throwing short punches from the bottom.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Guida darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Guida throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Efrain Hunter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hunter trying to control but Guida postures up.
Hunter has hold of Guida's hands but Guida slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Guida throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Hunter wants to improve his position but Guida is controlling well.
Hunter is trying to maintain the position but Guida is very close to passing his half guard. Hunter keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Guida tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hunter swivels and escapes. Guida shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hunter sprawls well. Hunter wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Guida gets slowly back to his feet. Guida closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hunter to the mat! Hunter manages to get full guard. Hunter wants to get back to his feet but Guida is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Guida stands up over Hunter, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Guida is working Hunter over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Hunter wants to sweep here but Guida controlling him for the moment. Guida working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Guida thows a big elbow that misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hunter throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Hunter pushes Guida off and gets back to his feet.
Guida tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hunter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Guida somewhat. Hunter lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Guida circles away quickly and effectively. Guida looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Hunter looking to control.

And that's the end of the fight! Julius Guida showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Guida, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
