PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mathieu Rouleau (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Langevin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rouleau kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Sugar by System Of A Down. Langevin is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Heart Of Steel-Manowar. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jeff Langevin!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rouleau tries to close the distance and clinch up but Langevin swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Langevin rushes Rouleau and presses him up against the cage.
Rouleau misses with a knee strike.

Langevin pulls guard effortlessly.
Rouleau is looking to work some ground and pound but Langevin has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rouleau tries to free his leg and advance position but Langevin is retaining full guard.
Rouleau with a flurry of punches that miss.
Rouleau throwing strikes but missing.
Rouleau trying to control the position from guard on top but Langevin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rouleau throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Langevin works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Rouleau ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Rouleau no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rouleau looking to hit a scissor sweep but Langevin is one step ahead there.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Langevin misses with a series of wild punches.
Langevin shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rouleau pinned against the cage. Rouleau gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Langevin counters with a nice body kick.
Rouleau is breathing heavily.

Langevin throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Rouleau stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Langevin.
Langevin shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rouleau pinned against the cage. Rouleau gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Mathieu Rouleau has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeff Langevin.

Rouleau shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rouleau showed some decent athleticism there.
Langevin makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Langevin.
Rouleau postures up in Langevin's guard and throws a big left but Langevin blocks it.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Langevin manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rouleau manages to get himself to full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Still in half guard, Langevin seems content to control.

Langevin gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Rouleau to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Langevin bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rouleau's guard.

Langevin drops back looking for a leg! Rouleau is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rouleau manages to kick Langevin off! Langevin jumps back into Rouleau's guard.

Langevin is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Rouleau tries to kick Langevin off but Langevin keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Rouleau wants to control the action here but instead Langevin manages to pass to full mount!

Langevin takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
BOOM! Langevin connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Rouleau wants to hold on but Langevin pushes him away.

Jeff Langevin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Rouleau jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Langevin walks away with a smile on his face. Rouleau gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Langevin shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rouleau's guard.
Rouleau is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

and Rouleau takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Rouleau has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Rouleau fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Langevin sprawls well initially but Rouleau persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rouleau connects with a nice short shot to Langevin's temple.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rouleau wants to free his trapped foot but Langevin is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Rouleau stalling away here and it's allowed Langevin to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mathieu Rouleau showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Langevin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
