Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Totoy Bato! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Stevenson! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stevenson slaps away a takedown attempt from Bato, before circling back to the center of the mat. Stevenson tries for a takedown but Bato circles away easily and Bato counters with a nice double leg into side control. Stevenson won't be happy with that. Bato is breathing heavily. Stevenson wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land. Bato content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Bato tries for a kimura but Stevenson is defending well. Stevenson wants to control but Bato postures up. Stevenson is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Bato is controlling him well. Stevenson tries to improve position but can't. Stevenson wants to control but Bato postures up.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Stevenson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Bato counters with a shoot takedown. Stevenson fights it but they end up in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bato postures up.
Stevenson might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Bato kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Bato tries to free his leg and advance position but Stevenson is retaining full guard. Bato postures up.
Bato wants to pass the guard but Stevenson is keeping the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Stevenson shoots and misses and Bato counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Totoy Bato has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Stevenson. Stevenson wants to improve his position but Bato is controlling well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bato tries to pass the half guard into mount. Stevenson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bato trying to control from half guard but Stevenson is working away. Stevenson trying to control but Bato postures up.
Stevenson is not content to let Bato control the position. Stevenson is looking to control Bato's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Stevenson avoid being mounted? Bato missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Stevenson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Stevenson is thwarting Bato's attempts to control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bato is defending against the submission attempts here by Stevenson.

Stevenson wants to control but Bato is keeping him busy. Stevenson tries to pass the half guard into mount. Bato knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Bato is looking to improve his position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Stevenson is looking to take a break and control but Bato is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Bato tries to get to full guard but Stevenson has control of the leg.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Stevenson shoots in but Bato avoids the takedown attempt easily. Stevenson shoots in but no luck this time. Stevenson cracks Bato with a good jab. Stevenson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bato pinned against the cage. Bato gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Stevenson has Bato up against the cage in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A head kick from Stevenson lands but Bato takes it in his stride. Stevenson fails in his attempt to clinch. Stevenson works over Bato's head and body with a nice combination. Bato slaps away a takedown attempt from Stevenson, before circling back to the center of the mat. Bato shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Stevenson as he jumps to the side. Stevenson misses with a takedown and Bato counters with a single leg into guard. Stevenson didn't expect that. Stevenson keeping moving, preventing Bato from controlling successfully. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stevenson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Bato pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Stevenson is keeping the position for now. Bato stopping the sweep attempt from Stevenson. Bato trying to control but Stevenson is working from the bottom. Stevenson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bato is controlling him.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Stevenson tries for a takedown but Bato sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Totoy Bato has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Stevenson.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Stevenson wants to clinch. Bato doesn't manage to clinch there - Stevenson circles away.
Stevenson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily so Bato counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Bato controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Bato wants to pass the guard but Stevenson is keeping the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stevenson keeping moving, preventing Bato from controlling successfully. Totoy Bato overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Stevenson is looking for a triangle but Bato pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bato pushes down on Stevenson's leg and manages to get into half guard. Well, if Bato is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Still in half guard, Bato seems content to control. Bato looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Stevenson looking for submissions off his back. Bato scoring with strikes to the body and head. Stevenson trying to hold on to Bato's head to control him but Bato postures up.
Bato takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Stevenson trying to control from the bottom.
Bato passes the guard and advances to mount! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Totoy Bato dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!
Bato shoots in for a double leg but Stevenson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Stevenson with a lazy takedown attempt and Bato counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bato. Stevenson keeping moving, preventing Bato from controlling successfully. Stevenson wants to sweep but no luck. Stevenson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bato gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Bato is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Bato trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stevenson is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Bato shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Bato takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Stevenson trying to control here.
Stevenson is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Bato is staying active.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bato seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Stevenson is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
