PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between BJ Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diego Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silva comes to the cage accompanied by All Summer Long. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, BJ Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Diego Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Frank Dennis and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Silva lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sanchez looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Silva slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Sanchez keeping moving, preventing Silva from controlling successfully.
Silva working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Silva is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Sanchez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Silva scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Silva frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Silva moves to the back position.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Silva controlling well, preventing Sanchez from escaping the position.

Sanchez really must keep his cool here. He's controlling one of Silva's hands and whilst he does that, he's got a chance of escaping the position.

Silva is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Sanchez has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Oooh a big shot gets through from Silva. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

Sanchez is trapped and Silva is scoring with shots to the head and body.

Silva working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Sanchez looking very determined here, making life difficult for Silva.

Silva has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sanchez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Silva is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Sanchez wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Silva working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sanchez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sanchez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Silva lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Sanchez!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Sanchez fails with an attempt to clinch.
Silva tries to clinch but Sanchez moves out of range.

Silva shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Silva was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Sanchez is squirming around, avoiding Silva's attempts to control the action.

Sanchez is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Silva locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Sanchez is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). BJ Silva!
