PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Donald Cerone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christian Paz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Christian Paz was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Donald Cerone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Christian Paz!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cerone doesn't manage to clinch there - Paz circles away.
Cerone throws a right hand that Paz ducks under and follows up with a left that Paz also avoids with ease.
Paz misses the shot to the body.
Cerone closes this distance looking for a takedown but Paz circles away.
Paz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cerone as he avoids it easily.

Cerone misses with a takedown attempt - Paz sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Cerone counters with a three punch combo that has Paz backing up. Paz nods at Cerone to acknowledge the strikes.

Cerone looks for the body kick but Paz saw that one coming.

and Paz counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Paz is trying to work for a kimura but Cerone is defending well.

Paz drops back, looking for a kneebar! Cerone looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Cerone looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Cerone!

Cerone stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Cerone clinches up with Paz and pushes him back against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Cerone has Paz pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Paz manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
A bit of stalling here from Paz.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cerone is looking to stand up but Paz won't let him.

Paz is trying to break the clinch but Cerone has him pressed against the cage.

Paz turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Paz manages to end up in side control.

Paz decides to stand back up. Paz steps back and let's Cerone get back to his feet.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Paz is looking to take a break and control but Cerone is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Christian Paz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Paz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cerone won't be happy with that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Paz misses the shot to the body.

and Paz counters with a three punch combo that has Cerone backing up. Cerone nods at Paz to acknowledge the strikes.
Cerone doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Paz moves into the clinch.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cerone drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Paz has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Cerone avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Christian Paz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Donald Cerone showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Paz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
