PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marcelo Carvalho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Putra Benjy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Putra Benjy told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carvalho swinging wildly here.
Carvalho looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Nice takedown defense from Carvalho. No joy for Benjy on that attempt.

Carvalho throws a body punch but Benjy moves out of range.
Carvalho throws a nice looking combination but Benjy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carvalho ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Benjy moves away.
Carvalho throws a hook to the side of Benjy's head but Benjy sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Carvalho lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Benjy circles away quickly and effectively.
Carvalho stuns Benjy with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Marcelo Carvalho seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carvalho scores with a hook to the body. Benjy takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Nice defenses there by Benjy.
Carvalho throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Carvalho misses with a wild body shot.

Carvalho tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Benjy paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Carvalho lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Benjy sprawling to the canvas. Carvalho follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Benjy hang on?

It looks like Putra Benjy has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Still in half guard, Carvalho seems content to control.
Benjy is still in real trouble! Can Carvalho finish him?

It looks like Carvalho is going to stand back up.
Benjy seems to have recovered his senses.
Carvalho is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Benjy manages to get to full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Carvalho thows a body shot but no joy.
Carvalho scores with a one two! Benjy had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Carvalho drops Benjy with a left and a right! Oh, Benjy is hurt - Carvalho dives into side control looking to finish!

The cut man is working on Putra Benjy's cut.
That's time! Carvalho's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Carvalho looks to land a left hand but Benjy moved out of range nicely.
Carvalho throws a right hand that Benjy ducks under and follows up with a left that Benjy also avoids with ease.

Carvalho gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Carvalho is looking for a triangle but Benjy pushes his legs off easily.
Benjy tries to free his leg and advance position but Carvalho is retaining full guard.

Benjy thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Carvalho working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Benjy doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Benjy manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Benjy slips nicely into half guard.

Carvalho gets full guard.

Benjy drops back looking for a leg! Carvalho is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Carvalho manages to kick Benjy off! Benjy jumps back into Carvalho's guard.
Benjy is breathing heavily.
Benjy passes Carvalho's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Carvalho is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Benjy works his way into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carvalho sneaks back into half guard.

Benjy moves into full mount! Carvalho won't be happy about that!

Benjy working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Carvalho turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Benjy off and cradles Carvalho's limp body as Benjy celebrates with his corner.
