The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gibson has closed the distance and engaged Render in a clinch.
Gibson keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Render's efforts to push away.
Gibson has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Render regains guard immediately.
Render wants to stand and escape but Gibson is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gibson passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Gibson in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Render tries to bench press Gibson off him but Gibson keeps the position.

Gibson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
