PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tahei Uchido (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chong Li (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Uchido's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, The Final Battle. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tahei Uchido! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chong Li! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Uchido fails with an attempt to clinch.
Li scores with a takedown into Uchido's guard. Li tries to free his leg and advance position but Uchido is retaining full guard. Li drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Uchido manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Li has Uchido in his guard. Li keeping moving, preventing Uchido from controlling successfully. Li controls Uchido momentarily but Uchido frees himself. Uchido throws and elbow that misses. Li uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Uchido's guard. Nice move by Li! Li thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Uchido wants to sweep but no luck.
That's one minute gone in the round. Li not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Li trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Li working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Li has a takedown stuffed. Uchido tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Li paws at him with a jab and circles away. Li tries to score a power double leg takedown but Uchido sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Li somewhat. Uchido tried to score with a low kick but Li checks it. Uchido with a lazy takedown attempt and Li counters with a shoot takedown. Uchido fights it but they end up in guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Uchido keeping moving, preventing Li from controlling successfully. Li stands and throws Uchido's legs to the side, diving into side control. Li working the strikes but Uchido uses the opportunity to regain half guard. Uchido is trying to get back to full guard. Uchido is trying to stand up here but Li is controlling him well. Li is looking for a kimura here.
Li is working for a kimura but Uchido is defending it quite comfortably.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Li looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Li looks gassed! Li is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Li wants to work for an arm triangle but Uchido is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Li is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Uchido is just riding it out for now. Li eventually gives up the hold. Li is looking for a kimura but Uchido is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Li to get the leverage. Uchido pushes Li off looking to stand but Li dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Uchido is trying to control but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chong Li dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.
Uchido leaves Li with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Uchido misses with a body kick. Li shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Uchido pinned against the cage. Uchido gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Uchido is looking to clinch. Uchido stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Uchido wants it to stay on the feet. Tahei Uchido has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chong Li. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Li has his takedown stuffed and Uchido counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Uchido stuffs the takedown. No luck for Uchido with that takedown attempt. Li is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Li swats away the attempt to clinch by Uchido. The fight stays on the outside here - Uchido looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Li shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. No luck with that takedown attempt from Li. Nice sprawl there from Uchido as Li shoots in. Uchido with a lazy takedown attempt and Li decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Uchido's guard. Li is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Uchido wants to get back to his feet but Li is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Li postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Uchido is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Li, into his guard. Uchido in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Uchido wants to control from the top but Li keeps moving. Li lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Uchido!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Li is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Uchido is surviving well by controlling Li's body position as best he can. Uchido tries to reverse the position but Li maintains control. Li with shots to the head and body - Uchido looks very uncomfortable down there. Uchido is looking to improve his position but Li isn't that keen on the idea. Li looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Li punishing his opponent with strikes. Uchido wants to try and get back to his feet. Chong Li has got the better of the ground game so far. Li trying to control but Uchido is having none of it. Uchido defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Li. Li controlling from the full mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chong Li showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Uchido's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Li. Li feints and as Uchido raises his hands in defense, Li changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Li postures up in Uchido's guard and throws a big left but Uchido blocks it. Uchido trying to keep a closed guard but Li is proving a slippery customer.
Li drops back looking for a leg! Uchido is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Uchido manages to kick Li off! Li jumps back into Uchido's guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Li tries to free his leg and advance position but Uchido is retaining full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Li controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Li preventing the sweep. Li forces his way into half guard. Li scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Uchido is looking to escape. Uchido is trying to escape back to his feet but Li uses the scramble to pass into side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Li tries for a kimura but Uchido is defending well. Uchido tries to escape but Li is in control. Li wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Uchido, who protects the arm well. Li throws a strike aimed at the side of Uchido's head but Uchido avoids it well. Li prevents Uchido from escaping the position. Li has knee on belly and moves into mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Li is working for a guillotine from mount but Uchido frees his head quite easily.
Li has hold of Uchido's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Uchido manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Uchido tries to lock up and control but Li gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Tahei Uchido has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Li has hold of Uchido's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Uchido manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Li throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Uchido is squirming around, avoiding Li's attempts to control the action. Chong Li is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Li controlling from the full mount.
And that's the end of the fight! Chong Li comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Li winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
