The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Withrow darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Withrow is looking for a kimura but Alvarado is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Withrow to get the leverage. Withrow tries to pass the half guard into mount. Alvarado knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Alvarado is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Withrow trying to control the pace. Withrow stops Alvarado from getting back to his feet.
Alvarado really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Withrow. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Withrow is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Withrow seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Alvarado for as long as he can get away with.
That's one minute gone in the round. Withrow prevents Alvarado from improving his position. Withrow drops an elbow to the side of Alvarado's head. Withrow is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Withrow is trying to control the action in half guard but Alvarado is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Withrow is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Alvarado is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jack Withrow!
