Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Linas Spokas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roy Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Linas Spokas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Roy Nelson! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Vladimir Khabensky and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Spokas throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nelson dodges the punch combination from Spokas.
Nelson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Spokas did well to prevent Nelson getting side control. Nelson wants to work for an arm triangle but Spokas is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Nelson passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Spokas! Nelson looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Nelson wants to finish this one by submission but Spokas is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Nelson. You get the feeling that Spokas really doesn't like being in this position too much.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nelson raining down shots from the mount! Nelson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Spokas is looking to escape. Nelson swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Spokas is now in Nelson's guard. A big mistake from Nelson there, giving up the dominant position! Spokas advances position into side control! Nelson is working to avoid the ground and pound but Spokas connects with a decent elbow. Spokas working the head with strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nelson is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Spokas's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Nelson taking some punishment here, with Spokas in his half guard. Nelson blocking the ground and pound attempt from Spokas. Nelson wants to get back to full guard. Nelson looks gassed! Nelson is trying to stand.
Nelson is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Spokas's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Spokas's back! Spokas controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Spokas staying busy and making it hard for Nelson to control. Spokas is trying to stand back up. Spokas showing good submission defense here.

Nelson is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Spokas has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Nelson has got his arm under Spokas's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Spokas has spun round into Nelson's guard beautifully! Well done that man!

Roy Nelson dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

A frustrated look appears on Spokas's face as he tries to break the clinch. Spokas manages to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Spokas fails in his attempt to clinch. Nelson keeps the fight on the outside. Excellent takedown into side control there by Nelson. Spokas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nelson on the ground. Spokas is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Nelson is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nelson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Spokas, who protects the arm well. Spokas is trying to buck Nelson off.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Nelson tries for a kimura but Spokas is defending well. Spokas is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Nelson tries for a kimura but Spokas is defending well. That's three minutes gone in the round. Spokas gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Spokas trying desperately to get to his feet.

Spokas's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. BOOM! Nelson connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Nelson sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Nelson working for a submission but Spokas is keeping him at bay. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Roy Nelson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Nelson feints and as Spokas raises his hands in defense, Nelson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Nelson stays in close to Spokas's body and controls the position. Nelson stops Spokas from standing up. Nelson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Spokas, up you get! Nelson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Nelson won't let Spokas get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Spokas tries to buck Nelson off but Nelson takes his back! Spokas is trapped and Nelson is scoring with shots to the head and body. Spokas looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands. Roy Nelson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Spokas is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Nelson gets his way!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Spokas trying to get back to his feet but Nelson is in full control for now. Nelson is looking to finish with some ground and pound!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Spokas is trying to stand back up. Nelson sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Spokas taps out!
