Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexei Bochaev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pete Norfolk! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Valeri Chadov and Illya Tyunina.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Norfolk shoots in for a takedown but Bochaev shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Norfolk is looking to clinch but Bochaev is avoiding it.
Bochaev closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bochaev lands in his opponent's guard. Bochaev drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Norfolk dives on top into guard. Bochaev controlling the position. Bochaev is trying to keep Norfolk in close.
Bochaev is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Bochaev controls Norfolk momentarily but Norfolk frees himself. Bochaev escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Norfolk gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Bochaev keeping moving, preventing Norfolk from controlling successfully. Norfolk tries to stand but Bochaev is controlling from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bochaev working for a triangle but Norfolk defends it easily.
Norfolk postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Norfolk tries to free his leg and advance position but Bochaev is retaining full guard. Norfolk trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Bochaev has momentary wrist control but Norfolk slips an elbow through the middle.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Bochaev takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Norfolk tries to clinch up. Norfolk feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Bochaev's calf. Bochaev dives in and grabs Norfolk's left leg, looking for a takedown. Norfolk pushes down on Bochaev's head and hops out. Alexei Bochaev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Bochaev is breathing heavily. Bochaev chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Norfolk can pounce on him.
Norfolk tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bochaev paws at him with a jab and circles away. Norfolk tries to clinch but Bochaev moves out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Norfolk is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bochaev sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Horrible takedown by Norfolk or perhaps it was just good defense by Bochaev which made him look bad. Alexei Bochaev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pete Norfolk. Norfolk throws a series of punches but Bochaev moves out of range. Norfolk is looking to clinch. Norfolk lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Bochaev shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. A kick lands to the mid section there for Norfolk. Norfolk looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Bochaev! Norfolk lands with some strikes. Norfolk working for a submission but Bochaev is keeping him at bay. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Bochaev tries to hold on but Norfolk pushes him away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Norfolk raining down shots from the mount! Bochaev tries to hold on but Norfolk postures up. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Norfolk cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Bochaev tries to lock up and control but Norfolk gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Norfolk has control of Bochaev's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Bochaev regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Norfolk avoids the attempt from Bochaev to control.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Alexei Bochaev just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Norfolk throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bochaev's waist but Bochaev gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Norfolk off to one side.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Bochaev has his takedown stuffed and Norfolk counters with a head kick. Norfolk turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Bochaev fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Norfolk avoids it really well and circles away. Norfolk moves in looking to clinch but Bochaev pushes him off. Bochaev shoots in for a takedown but Norfolk shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Norfolk shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Norfolk showed some decent athleticism there. Norfolk thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Bochaev regains full guard. Nicely done. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bochaev keeping moving, preventing Norfolk from controlling successfully. Bochaev is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Norfolk defends it well. Bochaev is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Norfolk sees it coming and defends easily.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Norfolk fails in his attempt to clinch. Bochaev thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Norfolk escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bochaev gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Bochaev postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Norfolk is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Bochaev, into his guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Norfolk has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bochaev is proving hard to escape from. Bochaev is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Norfolk is looking to stand up but Bochaev won't let him. Norfolk trying to control but Bochaev is working from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Pete Norfolk showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
Bochaev scores a takedown into full mount! Bochaev working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Bochaev goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Norfolk is on top in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Norfolk is keen to just control but Bochaev is a slippery customer.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Bochaev tries to score a power double leg takedown but Norfolk sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bochaev somewhat. Norfolk swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Bochaev moves forwards but Norfolk connects with a nice, crisp jab. Norfolk drives through with a takedown into guard. Bochaev pulls Norfolk in to control the position. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Norfolk accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Norfolk throwing strikes but missing. Norfolk trying to control the position from guard on top but Bochaev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Bochaev had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Norfolk defends it easily. Norfolk working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
