Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rolls Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and BeeJay Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes to the ring accompanied by Wu-Tang Clan - The Mystery Of Chessboxin. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rolls Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, BeeJay Penn!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Ivan Kurochkin and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn drives through and clinches with Gracie against the ropes.
A short uppercut from Penn.

Gracie manages to pull guard.
Gracie wants to sweep here but Penn controlling him for the moment.
Penn is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Gracie trying to keep a closed guard but Penn is proving a slippery customer.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Penn wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gracie has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Gracie is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Gracie throwing shots but Penn is blocking nicely.

Penn wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy.

Gracie seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Penn does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Penn tries to clinch but Gracie is having none of it.
Gracie misses with a looping left.

Penn displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gracie.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rolls Gracie will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Penn closes the distance but Gracie moves to the side
and Gracie counters with a nice uppercut.
Penn clinches but Gracie breaks the clinch
and Gracie counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Gracie swats away the attempt to clinch by Penn.
Penn moves in looking to clinch but Gracie pushes him off.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A slow jab from Gracie misses its intended target.
Rolls Gracie is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Gracie fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Penn is out of range.

Gracie ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Penn moves away.
Gracie fails to land with a series of punches.
Penn just misses with a punch to the body.
Gracie looks to throw the jab but Penn is out of range.

and Penn counters with a nice body shot.
Penn moves out of range of the body kick from Gracie.
Gracie keeps the fight on the outside.
The fight stays on the outside here - Penn looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Penn escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Gracie thows a left - swing and a miss!
BeeJay Penn is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Penn throws a body punch but Gracie moves out of range.
Penn closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Penn tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gracie swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Gracie misses with a looping left.
Gracie throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Penn blocks a head kick by Gracie.
Penn tries to clinch up.
Penn doesn't manage to clinch there - Gracie circles away.
Rolls Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Penn throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Penn tries to clinch there but Gracie circles away.
Gracie loads up on a big right hand but Penn slips the punch.
Gracie fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Penn avoids it really well and circles away.
Gracie moves out of range of the strikes.
Gracie throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Penn wants to clinch

and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Gracie trying to mount his opponent but Penn defends it.
Gracie is trying to control the action in half guard but Penn is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Penn is looking to escape.

Gracie not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Penn pushes Gracie off looking to stand but Gracie dives back in and keeps control.
Penn wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's time! Gracie's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Gracie shoots in but Penn avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Gracie throws a right and a left that both miss.
Penn tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Gracie counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Penn throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Gracie counters with a leg kick.
Gracie misses with a double jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Penn tries to clinch but Gracie moves out of range.
Penn circles away from the clinch attempt.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Gracie.

Gracie avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Penn tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Gracie counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Penn keeping moving, preventing Gracie from controlling successfully.
Penn is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Gracie throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Penn works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Penn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Gracie forces his way into half guard.
Gracie moves nicely into side control.
Penn struggling a bit here.
Gracie trying to control the position but Penn is working away.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Gracie in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Gracie tries to score with some ground and pound. Penn controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Penn gets back to half guard.
Penn gets full guard.

Penn keeping moving, preventing Gracie from controlling successfully.
Gracie throws a strike but Penn rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
BeeJay Penn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Penn passes Gracie's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Penn is looking to take a break and control but Gracie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rolls Gracie is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rolls Gracie showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gracie, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
