PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pablo Escobar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hade Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Escobar might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Dr. Kitch. Wood has chosen Mama Said Knock You Out as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pablo Escobar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hade Wood!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wood throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Escobar clinches up against the cage.
Escobar is pushing Wood up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
A short uppercut from Wood.

Escobar drags the fight down to the ground.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Escobar is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Escobar looking for a sweep. Not yet Escobar, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wood sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Escobar keeping moving, preventing Wood from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Escobar wants to stand and escape but Wood is having none of it.
Escobar is trying to control the position but Wood postures up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Escobar looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Escobar tries to clinch but Wood moves out of range.
Wood jabs at Escobar's body.
Wood misses with a few strikes there.
Wood lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Wood stuffs the takedown attempt from Escobar. Escobar gets slowly back to his feet.
Wood slips a jab and a cross from Escobar.
Wood shoots for a double leg takedown but Escobar sprawls well. He's pushed Wood's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Escobar doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Escobar takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Escobar tries to clinch but Wood is having none of it.
Escobar throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wood scores with a nice head shot.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Wood, as that shot connected.
Escobar gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Wood counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Wood is looking to take a break and control but Escobar is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Wood looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
I looks like Wood might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Wood is trying to work for a kimura but Escobar is defending well.
Wood is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Escobar looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wood sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Escobar defending well though.
Wood trying to control the action but Escobar is working from the bottom.
Escobar is looking for a sweep. Wood is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Wood thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Escobar is trying to stand.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Escobar misses with a takedown
and Wood counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pablo Escobar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wood comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Escobar is breathing heavily.
Wood scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Good shot there by Wood.
Good exchange - Wood coming out on top.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wood scores with a jab. Escobar acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Wood changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Wood bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Escobar's head backwards.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Escobar doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Wood lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Wood connects with a crisp jab.
Wood scores with a jab to the body.
Wood lands a body shot.
Wood throws a series of punches but Escobar avoids them all with ease.
Wood fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Escobar looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Wood connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
A right-left combo lands from Wood.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Wood changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Wood lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Wood fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hade Wood dominated that round.
That's time! Escobar's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Wood lands with a straight right. Escobar didn't see that one coming.
Pablo Escobar is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Escobar on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Wood blocks the body kick.
Hade Wood seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Wood fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Escobar manages to avoid it.
Wood stuffs the takedown attempt from Escobar. Escobar gets slowly back to his feet.
Escobar misses with a takedown
and Wood counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Wood has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Wood closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Wood tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Wood working the head with strikes.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Wood has hold of Escobar's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Escobar tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Wood cranks the arm and Escobar screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Escobar, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:01 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Hade Wood!
