The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dog lands with a nice body punch. Dog tries to score a power double leg takedown but Maia sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Dog somewhat. Dog fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Maia shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Dog napping and manages to drive through into side control! We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Dog is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Maia is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Dog sees it coming and defends easily. Dog slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Dog is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Maia drops back looking for a leg! Dog is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Dog manages to kick Maia off! Maia jumps back into Dog's guard. Maia pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dog is keeping the position for now. Maia drops back, looking for a kneebar! Dog looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Dog looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Dog!
That's one minute gone in the round. Maia is working to avoid the ground and pound but Dog connects with a decent elbow. Dog looks up at the clock and then as Maia takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Dog smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Dog throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Dog in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Dog slows the pace down. Dog creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Dog scoring with punches and elbows. Dog knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Maia on the ground. Maia is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Dog drops an elbow to the side of Maia's head. Dog throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Dog lands a nice short elbow. Dog sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Maia defending well though. Maia blocking the ground and pound attempt from Dog. The fighters are battling for position here. Maia manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Maia has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Dog should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Maia has tightened it up now! Dog should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
