And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Stean!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Roberts fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Stean sprawls well initially but Roberts persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Stean is not content to let Roberts control the position.
Roberts trying to control the pace.
Roberts is trying to control. Stean wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Roberts prevents Stean from standing back up.
Roberts is taking a breather. Stean says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Stean is looking for a sweep. Roberts is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Roberts trying to advance position but Stean counters by regaining guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Nathan Roberts just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Stean shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Roberts counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Stean looks gassed!
Roberts is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Roberts lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Stean is trying desperately to improve position.
Roberts tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Stean takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Roberts has hold of Stean's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Stean manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Roberts is landing with some decent strikes but Stean is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Roberts stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Roberts uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Roberts tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Stean paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Roberts shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Stean sprawls well. Stean wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Roberts gets slowly back to his feet.

Stean closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Roberts is trying to maintain the position but Stean is very close to passing his half guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stean decides to pull guard.

Roberts wants to control but Stean is having none of it.

Stean passes the guard and advances to mount!

Stean stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Stean tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Roberts swivels and escapes.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stean not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Roberts decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Stean, up you get!

Stean tries to close the distance and clinch up but Roberts swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Stean tries to score a power double leg takedown but Roberts sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Stean somewhat.

Stean seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Nathan Roberts overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Stean wants to improve his position but instead Roberts has moved into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Nathan Roberts will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

It looks like John Stean has been cut.

John Stean has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Stean postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Roberts is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Roberts is trying to control the action in half guard but Stean is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Nathan Roberts is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Stean is trying to stand up here but Roberts is controlling him well.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Roberts, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
