PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Timothy Mcgee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lee Mtagwa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mcgee comes into the arena with McGee blaring out of the sound system. Lee Mtagwa told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Timothy Mcgee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 3, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lee Mtagwa!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mcgee shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mtagwa's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Mcgee throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Mcgee is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mtagwa is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mtagwa has escaped and now he's on top!
Mtagwa not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Mtagwa wants to pass the guard but Mcgee is keeping the position.

Mcgee looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mtagwa is one step ahead there.
Mcgee is looking to stand up but Mtagwa isn't so interested in that idea.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mtagwa sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Mcgee is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mtagwa is controlling him.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mcgee shoots for a double leg takedown but Mtagwa sprawls well. He's pushed Mcgee's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Mtagwa changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
A big left from Mtagwa misses.
Mtagwa connects with a right hand. Mcgee shakes it off.
Mtagwa swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Mcgee shoots in and drives through. Mtagwa sprawls well.
Mcgee throws a right and a left that Mtagwa avoids nicely.

Timothy Mcgee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mtagwa swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Mcgee shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mtagwa defends it nicely.
Mtagwa misses the shot to the body.
Mcgee shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mtagwa pinned against the cage. Mtagwa gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Mtagwa scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Mcgee doesn't seem bothered though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Mtagwa rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mcgee moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Mcgee shoots in for a takedown but Mtagwa shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Mcgee wants to control but Mtagwa is keeping him busy.

Mtagwa might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mcgee kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Mcgee is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mtagwa is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Mcgee closes the distance and clinches up with Mtagwa, looking for a takedown. Mcgee pushes Mtagwa against the cage but Mtagwa circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Mcgee is working for a kimura but Mtagwa is defending it quite comfortably.

Mcgee wants to work for an arm triangle but Mtagwa is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Mcgee perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Mcgee throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Mcgee lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Mcgee is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Mtagwa is defending against the submission attempts here by Mcgee.
Mcgee is taking a breather. Mtagwa says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Mcgee misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Mcgee moves into the clinch successfully.
Mtagwa is pressed up against the cage. Mcgee has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Mtagwa down to the mat. Mtagwa avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Mcgee closes the distance and clinches up with Mtagwa, looking for a takedown. Mcgee pushes Mtagwa against the cage but Mtagwa circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mcgee changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mtagwa tries to avoid it but Mcgee manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mtagwa to the ground. Mtagwa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Mcgee uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mtagwa.
Mcgee uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mtagwa.
Mcgee throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mtagwa's waist but Mtagwa gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mcgee off to one side.

Mcgee with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mcgee looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Mcgee is working for a guillotine from mount but Mtagwa frees his head quite easily.
Mcgee can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mtagwa is looking to escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mcgee is really struggling to control Mtagwa but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Mcgee throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Mcgee is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Mcgee shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mtagwa as he avoids it easily.
Mcgee changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mtagwa tries to avoid it but Mcgee manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mtagwa to the ground. Mtagwa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mcgee lands with a kick to the temple. Mtagwa shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Mcgee will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Mcgee throws a leg kick but Mtagwa sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Mcgee throws a shot to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
Timothy Mcgee showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Mcgee has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
