Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Diego Malenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kendrick Perkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Malenko's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Control Machete - Comprendes Mendes. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Diego Malenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kendrick Perkins!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Malenko closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Perkins misses with a short punch on the inside.
Malenko is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Perkins pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Malenko goes for a takedown attempt but Perkins pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Malenko closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Perkins did well to prevent Malenko getting side control.

Malenko seems to be looking for submissions.

Malenko drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Perkins dives on top into guard.

Malenko cracks Perkins with a big right hand but Perkins just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Malenko seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Malenko drops back, looking for a kneebar! Perkins looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Perkins looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Perkins!

Malenko manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Perkins leaves Malenko with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Perkins bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Malenko's guard.

Malenko on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Malenko tries to get out of the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Malenko might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Malenko postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Malenko stands up over Perkins, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Perkins manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Perkins jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Malenko is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Malenko and Perkins has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Malenko here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Malenko tries to bench press Perkins off him but Perkins keeps the position.
Perkins grinds an elbow into Malenko's temple.
Perkins lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Malenko down.
Perkins scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Malenko to see if he's OK.

so Malenko counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Malenko throws a strike but Perkins rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Malenko tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Malenko has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Malenko goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Perkins has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Malenko but great work by Perkins.

Kendrick Perkins has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Diego Malenko is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Perkins working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

I would just about give that final round to Kendrick Perkins.
I think Malenko has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
