Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Philip Hais (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pekka Punahilkka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Philip Hais! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 2, fighting out of London, Pekka Punahilkka! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Andrew Berry and Chris Edwards.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hais throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Hais fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Punahilkka goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Hais fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Hais changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Punahilkka tries to avoid it but Hais manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Punahilkka to the ground. Punahilkka escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Philip Hais. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hais throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Punahilkka counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Well, if Punahilkka is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Punahilkka is trying to control. Hais wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Punahilkka trying to control the pace. Hais actively working from the bottom here. Punahilkka trying to control the action but Hais is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Punahilkka is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hais is just riding it out for now. Punahilkka eventually gives up the hold. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Punahilkka connects with a nice short shot to Hais's temple. Hais blocking the ground and pound attempt from Punahilkka. Hais keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Punahilkka wants to control but Hais is keeping him busy. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Punahilkka connects with a nice short shot to Hais's temple. Punahilkka is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hais throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Hais is looking for a sweep. Punahilkka is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Hais kicks Punahilkka off and gets back to his feet. Hais has his takedown stuffed and Punahilkka counters with a series of strikes that really hurt Hais! The ref looks into his eyes and sees nobody home - he's called the fight! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Pekka Punahilkka!
