The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dewing keeps the fight on the outside.
Dewing tries to move into range but Staton moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Staton fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Staton keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Staton lands with a hook. Dewing tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Dewing fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Staton sprawls well initially but Dewing persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Dewing changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Staton tries to avoid it but Dewing manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Staton to the ground. Staton escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Dewing shoots in looking for a takedown. Staton tries to sprawl out of it but Dewing keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Staton manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Dewing misses with a takedown attempt - Staton sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dewing has one foot on Staton's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

CJ Dewing overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Dewing has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Staton's face.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Dewing loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Staton scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Dewing land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Dewing stands and salutes the crowd.
