Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pablo Mugello!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ron John!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Damien Edna and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mugello ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Mugello throws a series of punches but John moves out of range.
John misses with a straight right.
John throws a looping overhand right but Mugello ducks down to avoid it.
John shoots in looking for a takedown. Mugello tries to sprawl out of it but John keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mugello manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
John shoots in but Mugello avoids the takedown attempt easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mugello slips a jab from John.
John tries to clinch there but Mugello circles away.
Mugello misses with a jab, cross combination.
Mugello leaves John with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Pablo Mugello has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ron John.
John throws the left hand but Mugello avoids the punch easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
John throws a hook but Mugello blocks it.
Mugello circles away from the clinch attempt.
John misses with an uppercut. Mugello saw that one coming.
John looks to land a left hand but Mugello moved out of range nicely.
A slow jab from John misses its intended target.
Mugello throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
John changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mugello tries to avoid it but John manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mugello to the ground. Mugello escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
John throws a big shot that misses.
The fight stays on the outside here - John looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Mugello uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from John.
Mugello stuffs the takedown attempt from John. John gets slowly back to his feet.
Mugello uses good head movement to avoid the hook from John.
Ron John seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mugello misses with the combination.
Mugello uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from John.
Mugello ducks under a wild hook from John.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mugello swats away the attempt to clinch by John.
John fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mugello avoids it really well and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pablo Mugello dominated that round.
That's time! Mugello's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Mugello moves forwards but John connects with a nice, crisp jab.


It looks like Pablo Mugello has been cut.
John throws a hook to the side of Mugello's head but Mugello sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
A jab from John misses.
Mugello misses with a series of wild punches.
John showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Mugello.

John throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

John gets a takedown into half guard.
John performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

John is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
John thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mugello's head.
John has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Mugello is squirming around, avoiding John's attempts to control the action.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mugello avoids a series of strikes thrown by John.
John controlling the pace for now.
John throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
John misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Mugello prevents John from taking his back.
John has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

John working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Mugello looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by John! Submission of the night perhaps?

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ron John!
