Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Juan Syah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Olavo Ozabal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Olavo Ozabal is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Juan Syah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Olavo Ozabal!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Eliza Hachem and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Syah shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Syah showed some decent athleticism there.

Syah decides to stand up.
Ozabal shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Syah counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Ozabal looks gassed!

Syah fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ozabal, pushing him back against the cage.

Syah gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Syah loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Syah slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Syah decides to stand back up. Syah steps back and let's Ozabal get back to his feet.

Syah drives through with a takedown into guard.
Syah might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Syah stands up and waves to Ozabal to follow him.

Syah is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Ozabal's half guard.

Syah content to control rather than advance.
Ozabal tries to get to full guard but Syah has control of the leg.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Syah is working for a submission of some sort.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Syah missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Syah seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ozabal does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Syah gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

and Syah counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Ozabal's guard now.

Ozabal pulls Syah in close to prevent any damage.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Syah pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ozabal is keeping the position for now.
Ozabal throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Syah with a flurry of punches that miss.
Syah knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ozabal on the ground.

Ozabal is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Syah wants to pass the guard but Ozabal is keeping the position.
Ozabal looking for a sweep. Not yet Ozabal, not yet.
Syah trying to control but Ozabal is working from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juan Syah dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Syah counters with a single leg into guard. Ozabal didn't expect that.

Ozabal wants to get back to his feet but Syah is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Syah slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Syah stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ozabal swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Syah throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ozabal works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Syah pushes down on Ozabal's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Ground and pound from Syah.
Syah wants to control but Ozabal is keeping him busy.
Ozabal trying to control from the bottom.
Ozabal moves into full guard.
Syah has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ozabal is on top in guard.
Syah could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Syah is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Ozabal decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Syah lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ozabal circles away quickly and effectively.
Juan Syah seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Syah throws out a loose jab but Ozabal uses good head movement to avoid it.
Syah moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Syah gets a takedown into half guard.
Syah slips a nice elbow through Ozabal's hands, connecting with Ozabal's forehead.
Ozabal is trying to control but can't.
Syah is looking to stall here but Ozabal recovers full guard.
Ozabal bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Syah's guard.
Ozabal is looking to stand up but Syah won't let him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juan Syah dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Syah doesn't manage to clinch there - Ozabal circles away.
Syah keeps Ozabal at a distance using the push kick.

Syah gets a takedown into half guard.
Ozabal is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ground and pound from Syah.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
It looks like Syah is going to stand back up.
Syah looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Syah wants to control but Ozabal is keeping him busy.
Ozabal tries to roll over but Syah keeps him under control.
Syah is trying to control the action in half guard but Ozabal is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Syah postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Ozabal to stand up.
Syah tries to close the distance and clinch but Ozabal swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Ozabal counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ozabal.

Syah is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Syah's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Ozabal tries to free his leg and advance position but Syah is retaining full guard.
Ozabal is looking to stand up but Syah won't let him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ozabal trying to control the position from guard on top but Syah is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ozabal would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Syah thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ozabal's head.

Syah is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Syah is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Syah thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Ozabal to regain full guard.

Ozabal keeping moving, preventing Syah from controlling successfully.
Syah chips away with some ground and pound.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Syah counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Syah thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Olavo Ozabal has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Juan Syah is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Juan Syah showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Syah has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
