PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lenord Marshall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Rockefeller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rockefeller comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Balls to the Wall kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lenord Marshall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Rockefeller!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Bruno Lombardi and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marshall keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Rockefeller.
Rockefeller feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Marshall's calf.
Marshall fails with a takedown attempt.
Marshall shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rockefeller defends it nicely.
Rockefeller leaves Marshall with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lenord Marshall. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Marshall shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rockefeller manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Marshall stands and throws Rockefeller's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Marshall wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rockefeller keeps working.
Marshall works to advance to full mount. Rockefeller defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Marshall jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Rockefeller is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Rockefeller and Marshall has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Rockefeller takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Rockefeller sneaks out the side door and pushes Marshall away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Marshall gets a takedown into half guard.
Marshall seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rockefeller does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Marshall tries to pass to full mount but Rockefeller defends it.

Marshall seems to be working for a kimura but Rockefeller defends the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lenord Marshall dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Marshall shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rockefeller as he jumps to the side.

Rockefeller misses the shot to the body.
Marshall shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rockefeller defends it nicely.

Rockefeller throws a push kick but Marshall slaps the foot to one side.
Lenord Marshall is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rockefeller tries to bum rush Marshall with a series of wild strikes but Marshall uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Rockefeller ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Marshall moves away.
A slapping body kick lands there for Rockefeller.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Marshall shoots in looking for a takedown. Rockefeller tries to sprawl out of it but Marshall keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rockefeller manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Rockefeller goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rockefeller lets loose with a powerful body kick. Marshall will feel that in the morning.

Rockefeller thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Marshall if he has to take too many more of those.

Marshall looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rockefeller is fending him off so far but Marshall persists. Nope, Rockefeller circles away and we're back to standing.

Marshall takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Marshall closes the distance and clinches up with Rockefeller, looking for a takedown. Marshall pushes Rockefeller against the cage but Rockefeller circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Marshall drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Rockefeller keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Marshall takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Rockefeller lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Marshall crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Rockefeller - the referee stops the clock and Marshall gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Rockefeller. Marshall manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Rockefeller has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

A punch lands to the side of Marshall 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Rockefeller throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

Marshall throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rockefeller's waist but Rockefeller gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Marshall off to one side.
Rockefeller clobbers Marshall with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

A slapping body kick lands there for Rockefeller.
Marshall takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Marshall takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Rockefeller lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Marshall shoots in looking for a takedown. Rockefeller tries to sprawl out of it but Marshall keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rockefeller manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Marshall is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Rockefeller misses with a jab, cross combination.
Marshall tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rockefeller sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Marshall somewhat.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

John Rockefeller comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rockefeller has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
